I have an E30 m3 and  the heater control seems to work intermitantly. On a recent trip on 16 deg i turned up the dial to 17 deg and hotter air came through the vents. After a while the temp went cols and turned the dial to 18 deg. This happenned all the way up to 22+ deg.

Sometimes it does not work at all and moving the dial does not change the temp at all and stays cold.

The thermostat has been renewed and the temp gauge in the car sits between 1/4 and 1/2 and 1/2 in traffic.

Is the attachment at the back of the dial loose or something else?

How difficult is this to fix, dash out?

Any solutions please?
