Has anyone else experienced this.

Whilst I was accelerating with all the windows down and sunroof wide open,  suddenly all the windows closed by themselves!!!! Is this a safety feature?? I didn't notice the exact speed but lets say it was well before the limiter kicked in.

Yes, it actually mentions it in the windows section of the owners manual - windows go up at approx 150kmh - if you wind them down again they'll stay in that spot (ie won't go up again if you go back over 150) until you switch engine off - it helps reduce drag and cabin noise.

Yep, this is supposed to happen alright.

Had mine in the local garage to get the tracking sorted. It was up on the lift with the engine running and the driver's window open when all of a sudden the window closed and the doors locked themselves! Luckily I had a spare key handy which wasn't inside the car! The doors, windows and sunroof often lock/close whilst I am driving along. Is this due to radio transmissions of the same frequency as my keyfob I wonder???

MMMmmmmm  not sure what's going on with your car but it doesn't sound too healthy.  It only happened to me as I exceeded a certain speed and I understand its designed that way. I guess its to stop you popping the back window out!!! Wouldn't that be a laugh. All 8's have it apparently.

It would sure piss me off if it happened randomly. Those window motors are pretty powerful. Caught my finger in it once and it bloody well hurt. Maybe try asking BMW about changing the frequency. Bounce it off the guys on the Roadfly board; it may be something they've seen before.

Something else to consider; I have a Clifford Cat 1 alarm that according to the manual can activate functions like auto boot opening and closing all portals. I never use the fancy functions as I usually end up with 2 tonnes of 90 dB screaming useless mass in Tesco's car park.

I agree with Phil, sounds like its worth getting the problem checked on a BMW dealer DIS diagnostic system.  Euro/Aus car were fitted with short range line of sight infra red key fobs, rather than the radio frequency ones (is your fob 2 or 3 button?) - if its infra red less likely to be that as the trasmitter needs to be in pretty close line of sight with the receiver on the back of the rear view mirror.

Could be a dodgy window/lock control module, think its in the door sill somewhere or the ABS sensors which measures the Vmom speed are somehow sending a spurious signal to that the module telling it the car has exceeded 150kmh and tripping the window/sunroof close circuit.

Another great idea from bmw is whenever i engage reverse, the nearside mirror dips down to aid parking. I've got mtec mirrors. dont know if standard one will do the same!
