As a broad range of events I think they sound very good.

I'll definately support the Dilston and Alnwick events if the dates fit in with what I'm doing at the time.

The IOM event is a good idea but not something I'd do, nor is the track day now I own a straight line barge that doesn't really like fast corners too much!

Drive & Dine is probably out for me if it is on a weekday evening, as they're the days I keep for family/quality time at home.

I'd add that I think a regular monthly meeting in the form of a mini-run is something we could consider and support.  I'd certainly give it my support on a Sunday, and still think I could do it if it were a Saturday.

I'd combine this with the official club monthly meeting - say a 2-3 hour meeting once a month that eradicates the problem of evening meetings and perhaps more people can get to it and be prepared to travel on a weekend.

If not, then I still think a monthly mini-meet could be done.  I've arranged the same for another car club and it looks like it's going down well.

I also think a few more pre-arranged runs need to be added in.  Advance notice allows more people to attend them.

Say....

Whitby-Helmsley

Kielder

Lake District

Holy Island/Bamburgh/Seahouses

Terry, wouldn't mind doing a couple of car shows next year, I only managed Gaydon in 05, be nice to do some more local.

Isle of Man... Like your thinking, be up for some of that.

Kielder, with our Scottish friends again?

On that note, how about having a run up to Moffat to see our Scottish friends at the classic show?  Mark & I went this year, and not only was it a great show, but the run back was probably the best we had all year!

Croft. YES!!!

I think regular runs are a good thing, but I know that some people like a sedate drive in the country,  while others prefer a more spirited run, and I think both groups should be catered for.  Even if we all go on a run up to Kielder (for example) at a steady pace, but on the return trip, we split into 'fast & slow' groups?

I think the more varied things we do, then there will be something for everyone!

I'm always up for a Whitby run. Wharefdale area is pretty nice as well - Grassington and Linton-in-Craven. Would say Robin Hoods Bay and Stears (sorry Staithes) but there aint much room to park cars - only at the top at RHB and Stears is quite small.

Staithes is a good one, and very much my old stomping ground.

Parking is easy....you just turn off for Cowbar (opposite Boulby Mine) and take the cliff road to a small car park that is little known.  You can then head down the Cowbar side of the bank to the bridge across to Staithes.  It's a 5 minute walk and the views from the Cowbar side of the cliffs (looking up towards Boulby Twins - which are the highest non-sheer drop cliffs in England) are superb.

Sounds good Chris, can't remember where I parked last time, I know I had to walk down the hill.

Would have mentioned Runswick Bay, except it's a bit cliquie in respect of the Yacht club - you either fit in or you don't if you know what I mean.

True, and the beach is a bit crappy there now too (not that I was thinking of heading down there in the car!).

The car park at the top of the bank (next to the hotel) has some cracking views though.  Better still though, if you head on an go to Kettleness or Goldthorpe there are some superb views of the coast.

Oh don't mention Kettleness, had some horrible childhood experiences having to walk miles and miles with my folks - bus stops only round the corner... yeah right (have photo of me sat on kettleness sign must have been only 6.)

Sandsend is also a nice place and only up the coast from Whitby (where the 'padpod' lives lol)

I'm up for Staithes.  I haven't been there in years.

Now that would be entertaining, a convoy of Beemers winding down through the streets of Staithes

I like the sound of all those suggestions..... I definately think we should have another get together with our Scottish Cousin's somewhere.....

Also what about a dealer visit like the Leeds one?? Don't know if anyone has a relationship with someone who could facilitate it.... Chris?? Especially a behind the scenes in the workshop!

Also a rolling road trip would be fun.....

Good thinking Batman!  A dealer vsist would be good.  I believe there was one arranged for Scothall in Leeds earlier this year, but was cancelled.  No idea who was running that one.  But I'm sure with Chris' 'contacts' at Silverlink, he could maybe speak to them.  They could have an open day with new & old lined up together, may help to sell the idea to them.

Rolling road....hmmmmm....interesting.....

Terry, glad you have started this thread....  And this is aimed at all the NE region members.....

One thing I noticed was the lack of events being posted on the BMWCC website on the events calender.  I know there where events taking place, and I know that sometimes these are arranged at short notice, but not all the events where on there.  Furthermore, I am aware of some taking place, only after they had taken place, with no mention of them on the forum, website etc.

I am not saying that I would have, or will attend every event, but as a region, I think we need to improve our region-wide communication.  That way, everyone at least has sight of the forthcoming events, and can choose whether to attend or not.  Also, people do have other commitments, family etc., so giving as much notice as possible would probably gain better attendance, people can mark off dates, and plan around them.

This is not a dig at any individual, or particular group.  Just an observation.  I applaud Terry and his efforts to start planning for next year now, and that the fact that he is opening up the floor for ideas.  As members, we can support the 'leaders' in our region by helping to arrange all these events, and of course by attending.  For even the most simple of events, it takes a lot of planning & work!!!

I will now climb off soap box, and go and do some work.

And just to stress.......  I am not having a dig at any individual, or particular group.  Just an observation.

Ok, I've got one more to throw in.

This weekend was a relatively successful joint meet between the users on here and a number from Tyresmoke.net.

So, how about we give plenty of advance notice in 2006 and try for a TRIPLE car club meet in the region.

BMW Car Club Northeast & Scotland

Tyresmoke.net (I'd happily get their involvement committed to such an event)

Durham Thoroughbreds

I'm sure we could get well over 25 cars on this one if it was properly done.  The Tyresmoke turn-out was actually very low (for example, I'min Northampton tonight and there will be a 15 car turnout after just 2 days notice).  The BMW contingent from the Northeast was missing a few too so that could be even higher next time.  Then the Durham mob always seem to have a good turnout.

Our friends from north of the border are having a poll on a trip to the Isle of Man.  Now, as this was mentioned at the start of this thread, a joint venture.......?

Why not. Lets see what the interest is from the North East members and then see how many our Northern cousins can attract. Should be a great trip if we can agree a date.

I will be posting a proposed calendar of events on the http://www.bmwclubne.co.uk - http://www.bmwclubne.co.uk website for discussion which will include the ones highlighted on this post.

Sounds good. I will be adding these events to our proposed calendar to fire up some interest. I know we have at least 2 for the North East AGM.

Would be good to see you guys up here in the North at one of our meetings or local events.

We normally have a good turn out for Gaydon.

Are you displaying any cars at the yorkshire post car show?

I agree with co-ordinating our efforts, there are too many occasions whereby an event is held and somebody leaves a post saying they knew nothing about the trip.

I'm sure we could get a car full upto a Durham pub meet midweek and weekends (organised well in advance) should see a few more turn up too.  Portions at the Barnes Wallace are worth a look too!

The thoughts are to try and make the Harewood show the 'North East Region' home event (it's pretty much in the middle for the Leicester, Chesterfield, York & Tees/Tyneside groups) with a good display of cars.  Howard is trying to sort out more details on this one.

PM me some contact details (or look at mine in Straight 6) and we'll try and get some more firm dates in the diary.
