I missed Top Gear last night! Went to The Transporter 2, should've stayed in to watch Top Gear!! Just wondering if anyone knows if it'll be repeated during the week?
If not, does anyone around my neck of the woods have it recorded?

Thanks!

Transporter II - I was amazed they got funding for a sequel! The 1st one was hilarious.. the bit where he kicks off the pedals and fights the boys on the oil...

I'm a deffo for round II!

try'n to get those 3 cars out of the carpark, you'd feel a real prat sitting there with everyone watching holding up the traffic. The Ford GT was the one for me.

Was the frogeye sprite hillclimb car vs the modded 306 on last night?

I'm almost ashamed to say it, but Transporter II was actually fairly entertaining. There were one or two scenes that were OTT. (i.e. like the jump on the bridge in Gone in 60 Seconds), but on the whole, it was a good laugh - not a total waste of €8.50. Anyone who has seen the first movie will pick up on loads of little funny bits in the second one!

'Twas also good to see a sequel of a (non-arty) european movie that wasn't a complete joke (like Taxi 2 - the french one, or the American re-make of the original Taxi - with Queen whats-her-name).

As for the transporters new drive... the jury is still out, although it does sound great!

Bit of an anorack one this guys, but see if you can spot it.

Clarkson is talking to the Minister for transport, and says that as the ( whatever car) can stop in half the distance the highway code says for a given speed, it should be allowed to go at twice the speed.

As you will all know ( I hope)  when you double the speed you quadruple the stopping distance, not double it

Don't worry if you didn't know, the minister didn't pick up on it either !

Talking of stopping distances did anyone read the article in Autoexpress a couple of weeks ago. Nice to see the 3 series doing so well, 3rd shortest stopping distance from 85mph behind a Porche fitted with £5800 worth of ceramic's and a new EVO. Pretty impressive I'd say.

What he actually said was that as a particular car could stop in 1/2 the stated distance at 70mph ....

so 70mph = 315ft/2 = 157.5ft.

If we assume the same formula applies at 140mph = 1120ft/2 = 560ft

which is only a 56% on the stated 70mph (and roughly equivilent to the HC calulation for 96mph)

(bl**dy pendants! )

the formula :

20 x 2 ,30 x 2.5, 40 x 3, 50 x 3.5, 60 x 4,70 x 4.5, 80 x 5, 90 x 5.5, 100 x 6, 110 x 6.5 and so on

I've no idea where they get the original figures from.

The interesting thing about this, is clarkson is talking about new cars, as soon as it gets a few miles under its belt, up go the stopping distances, more to do with dampers than brakes and tyres.

You do a lot of track stuff pittsy, have you any data on different damper to stopping distances ?

-------------

Posted By: thepits
Date Posted: 28-November-2005 at 10:51

a simpler formula is: -

(speed*speed)/20 +speed = stopping distance in feet

"You do a lot of track stuff pittsy"

eh? what? not me - ask Uwe!

But he wasn't really there to defend government policy on speed cameras. Even so I thought he gave a good account for himself. Even Clarkson admitted that cameras are no good at generating revenue.

I just looked up the TV guide on Sky Digital... it doesn't show Top Gear for tomorrow at 7!!!!

Is this because we only get BBC NI on Sky Digital here?
If so, does anyone have the frequencies/settings for regular BBC2 so I can set up a new channel on my sky box?

Well it was well worth the wait!! The trip with the Zonda, Ferrari and the GT40 was brilliant!

It would appear that BBC2 NI (on Sky Digital) don't show the repeat on Tuesdays, so if anyone wants to tune in BBC2 England (who do show the repeat), go to services on your sky box, setup and then add channel and enter the following:
Freq. 10773 H
FEC   2.2 5/6

Took five frantic minutes trying to set up the channel, only missed the start of TG!

What is more impressive is the 0-180mph in 14s

So if you see a speed camera ahead while driving a Veyron, don't slow down. If you accelerate through it the camera won't catch you.

I think they should have a button to reverse all the wings to point the opposite direction... kinda like the turbo boost button in Knight Rider. That way you will fly over the cars.

p.s. wonder what a copper would say if the caught one speeding. "Sir I'm going to let you off with a warning... can I have a go?"

Thought the stig getting the Astra Diesel up on two wheels was pretty impressive!!! He was tryin' hard!!!

The Zonda F sounded amazing... I want one!!! It's a bit ugly, but I love it! We should start Ireland's (and England's) biggest lottery syndicate and use any winnings to fund the dream garage!!

Looking forward to that Veyron - roll on next Sunday!!

The thing that impressed me most last night was Ellen McArthur - pure methodical approach and concebtration to the task at hand.  Did the Stig ever do timed lap in the Liana, that would be an interesting benchmark

Zonda was good, but the rest of the show was average enough.

... 80bhp out of the Mazzer - what a hoot! His driving into the hedge when the engine calved was a bit unneccessary though.

The laptime by Ellen was very impressive.

And the sound out of the Zonda is minter! I'm very surprised it lapped quicker than Mazzer MC12, SLR, Carrera GT et al though. It is a tight circuit I suppose...

It'll be very interesting to see what time "the new fastest car in the world" will do around the track. Did they ever have a McLaren F1 out on the track? Would love to find out exactly how much faster the Veyron is compared to the old title holder.

According to the http://www.bbc.co.uk/topgear/powerlaps/ - power laps board ... there is 9.6 seconds between the M3 CSL and the Zonda F - nice to see that you get something for the extra €400K odd!!! But still no cup holders!

Yet another mental Top Gear race last night!!
Hands up who wants a Hail.gif Veyron? I didn't think there would be such a big difference in times between it and a McLaren F1!

I wouldn't mind one of the new Marcos' either... looks like fun!!!

Dunno, I reckon it could be like that Ferrari 355 offered for sale in the Damaged Repairables section of Buy And Sell a few years back for £4000... turned out to be a prank that someone pulled on an elderly lady!!!

Did ye see how stiff the Veyron was every time it hit a bump in the road... your back would be broken after about ten miles on the roads around here! (A sure sign I'm getting old )

Missed it but have it taped - can't wait to see it.  Just looking at the power lap times and saw the BMW 535d on it.

Bit embarassing for the M3!!!!! let alone the SL55 AMG and as for the Civic Type R, anyone have that lap for the 535d downloaded.

Just checked the specs against the M3 - The 535d is
253cc less in engine capacity
has 71hp less
and is 165kg heavier
banghead.gif Please tell me I missed something, otherwise I'm starting saving now for my next sports car - AN OIL BURNER!!!!!

Honda NSX Type R - 1.31.6
BMW M3 - 1.31.8
Nissan 350Z - 1.31.8
Mazda RX8 - 1.31.8
BMW 535d - 1.31.8
Ford Focus RS - 1.32.2
Lotus Esprit V8 - 1.32.5
Audi TT V6 - 1.32.7
MG ZT - 1.33
Noble - 1.33.1
Mercedes SL 55 AMG - 1.33.2

Yeah, that 535d is some mover alright... especially when you consider that they are all autos (don't think they've released a manual yet)! There was a review of a chipped one in Total BMW mag a few months ago... they were pretty impressed as far as I can remember. Probably mixing up all those articles I've read, but I think it had more Torque than the E39 M5!

I knew it was fast but had no idea it was at that level.  Thats very very fast.

That sort of ticks all the boxes and in estate form it could be the ultimate family sports car, performance, ecconomy, room, understated and totally refined yet a lunatic machine if you wanted to push it from A to B.

I can just see the boy racers faces, as they watch the BMW diesel disappear up the raod like a scalded cat with Mom, Dad, two kids, dog in back and roof box.

Saw that but I reckon he's a bit on the cheap side, STG800k sterling is €1.23million before the VRT, unless he's getting it direct from the factory.

In case any of you were beginning to panic about what to do on the night of the 27th - Top Gear is on at 8 O'Clock!!!

Should be a good one too... it's supposed to feature Clarkson Vs. Clarkson - how he drives in a computer game Vs. him on a real track!!!

Enjoy!
