Hi, I have the common broken steering box bracket in my 1985 m635. I ordered a fix which is basically a big bolt and spacer from the states. I would however like to have the bracket rewelded as well.
Anyone had this done successfully and if so by whom? Regards,

you need to drop the subframe to make a neat job of welding the bracket, and unless you have the bracket remade completely differently it will only break again for sure. So not worth it in most people's book.... Out of interest how much did you pay for the kit? cheers

Hi . Had the same problem with a broken bracket .I dropped the
subframe and fabricated a new stonger bracket . Once welded it should
last a life time.

Ran into Rohan on way back from stables tonight. On my original subframe, the bracket fractured and was welded. That repair lasted all of two years, then cracked again. In the end, it was easier to have a new (£300 -------------

It was good to meet you Ivan. Your car is very nice. I have seen a few pictures of it on here over the last few months. Brucey the kit was very cheap as it is only a bolt and spacer which makes up for the lack of a bracket. 30 dollars sounds right. is it not the case that a new subframe will just break again, like the old one did? Or have they improved this part with a better design? Personally I would rather eat worms than shell out for another one the same, if that's what you get; even 'o' level metalwork skills could come up with something better than the original, surely.... cheers

At this point, I was going to post up a pic of what happened to my old subframe, then realised I haven't got it on my PC
This may explain why there aren't many worms in my garden.....
...which is where you come in, Brucey. One of your famous technical articles should do it - then, when/if my "new" subframe cracks, I'll know how to repair it -------------
