I am wanting to have my wing mirrors painted, they are colour coded at the moment but I have caught one on my wall & the other one has been painted before but with a bad colour match. I was wondering if it is possible to remove the colour coded covers from the main mirrors without removing the complete thing as I would rather have these painted without taking the car to the spray shop? I must addmit I havent looked yet but I thought while I`m here I`ll ask the question before I go in with both thumbs & brake something!! cheers......DAT. |

If yours is 635.....then as far I am aware it is the actual casing of the mirror that is painted....I have tried to dismantle one in the past to replace the black plastic surround and it was a world of pain - broke the mirror glass and was better off. A decent painter should be able mask off the mirror body and make good reasonably cheaply. Huw ------------- m635 e46 320 tourer |

Dave, have you tried Chips-Away? They do repairs at your house or work. Friend of mine has had both his & his wifes car tidied up. They did a very good job too by all accounts. you can remove the mirror assemblies complete, but it means taking half the door to bits, and then having to re-adjust everything.... not worth the effort IMO, unless they have to be replaced... cheers

Cheers Andy & Brucey, if it was just the minor damage to the n/s mirror that i am guilty of I would probably touch it up myself, but as I say the o/s has been painted a solid black instead of metalic by the previous owner so I thought I would have them both done together. The main reason for wanting to remove them was to avoid the unavoidable dust that gets everywhere when you leave your car at a spray shop! |
