Hi, new to the forum, but need help, have recently got an old 635 auto , drove it for a month, then stored it for winter, nice dry place. last two times i have started it to keep it running it fires up & runs great, until it gets warm, then it seems to go spluttery and pops on a quick stab of throttle, it struggled to tickover, and when turned off will not re start, tries to fire, but will not stay going. I am reluctant to touch it as it was fine before, and am not familiar with these.  a few days later it will start again, and do the same, any suggestions would be helpfull. It appears to be a well serviced car, with good history. Nick.

This sounds like a fault with the idle control system. There are several different flavours fitted to 635s over the years, with the early motronic engines having an idle control very similar to the L-jet arrangement.

If yours is like this, basically one of two air valves may be faulty. the car starts and runs OK when the first valve is open, but this closes after a minute or two and then the second valve is meant to work and it sounds like yours is shot, or perhaps just sticky.

If you search the web for L-jet E28 aux air valve etc you will find more than you ever wanted to know....

cheers
