As I had previoulsy mentioned, I have booked Mondello national for Oct 8th (IIRC!).
I have now provisionally booked April 29th again on the National.
Expect basic fees to be €150. This is the weekend of Punchestown hence why it is free.
I will draw up app forms and will let you know more as I get it.

boss - tbh honest if its the National Im not really interested.

The International circuit is hard enough on brakes without having to do the shorter national circuit.

I know we have debated this already what with the increased costs, getting numbers etc etc.

I'd prefer the international aswell.

Tis a catch 22, but while Mondello international on a weekend is a pricey beast, so is travelling abroad to do another track! So I'll pay what it takes to do it no probs.

glad to hear it boys. Hopefully 50 others out there will think the same.
Once I have definite details about the spring date then I will approach the NI crowd as well as some dealers with the view to reducing costs.

I should be OK for 29th. I'd be prepared to stump up extra to give the international a try.

I make it 6 - nil so far in favour of international!

Best of luck.

Justin

I seriously advise you not to take an E46 M3 CSL out on the open days.  I went down to one and it was honestly full of knackers in clapped out cars who didnt give a toss what happened.  With some machinery like that, you will be a nervous wreck going out uninsured with lots of people who have far less to lose than you.

Go and take a look if you must, and maybe I got it on a bad day, but the vrt situation here in the south means the standard of car is far lower on average than you might expect in the uk.

I'd fully agree, I went to an open day, its madness. What turned me off was the bunch of chavs beside me drinking many cans of scrumpy jack then going out for a few laps, thats what your dealing with.. It was over crowded with lots of shunts, mostly from dusty scrap yard wrecks that had been lowered onto the track by break down rigids...

Speaking of which - i have requested the International and Ian Beatty just has to double check that the school isn't on that day and will come back to me.

Any thoughts, Killian? And any way we could help?

Maybe we should approach AXA or Hibernian or the like?  Supporting responsible performance driving in the safe confines of a circuit & all that (I know tis a long shot, partic when there's no insurance cover whilst on track!)

Any motoring organistations interested, like CarBuyersGuide, Eiretyres, Falken, GSF & the like?

Or some of the recommended suppliers listed on the site who get good business from the club & so might be able to justify giving a few quid back?

Bad news.
The international section has been booked out by the driving school so we have no option but to stay on the National. He tried to see if it was possible to cancel but apparently the volume dictated otherwise.
I will book the international for the autumn.

okey dokey.. disappointing, but at least I'll get an opportunity to compare 328 times from the last BDD & M3 times from Aprils. Every cloud!!

My fear is that come autumn, there'll be a 'scheduling malfunction' on Mondellos side again, and we'll have the same situation as last time.

Sorry I've been away from the forum for a while. I should be ok for 29th APril. Will probably take out the scoobie instead of the e39 because of the power to weight ratio if that's ok. If I get an e36 m3 non evo in the mean time i'll take that out instead.

Hiya guys,

Would love to give the national circuit a good lash, as I haven't attended a track day before - few questions first though:

What's the layout for the day?

How many laps do we get?

What's the likely cost?

Apart from tyres, what gets the hardest abuse from a session like this, your trousers?

Posted By: ///M3Mick

Lads

Unfortunately I cannot make the 29th as I am away that week and travelling out on that morning.  I hope you get the numbers k.

Originally posted by e30King e30King wrote:

Check mondello.ie for the circuit layout.  In terms of organisation, the cars will get divided into 2-3 groups which are based on the power of the cars (so people will be driving with cars of a similar ability).  The groups go out alternately for 8-10 laps and then come in to let the other group off/allow brakes etc to cool.

How many laps do we get?

Between 30-60 depending on how handy you take it and whether your engine blows up or not.  I can't remember exactly but i recall Eamo did 64 miles on his obc last time iirc.  If this sounds like very little, believe me its not.

What's the likely cost?

€150-200

Apart from tyres, what gets the hardest abuse from a session like this, your trousers?

 brakes, gearbox, and nappies

Posted By: T.J.
Date Posted: 20-February-2006 at 04:00

I did over 60miles in mine aswell. It's more than enough... that's 60miles between 4,000 & 6,500rpm, and an 8.4mpg average for the day

Tyres & brakes are the obvious wear items. Technique minimises the wear to these alot, so head out with someone experienced if tis your first time, as a few tips on braking points and lines make a big difference.

you dont need an m powered car to enjoy the track day - theres loadsa power in your own 523.

And even then its not about power but getting the most out of you and your car.

leave the scooby at home!

I have been practicing the National track in my CSL... if I could get past the next few levels I can unlock the International track.

http://www.gt-legends.com - http://www.gt-legends.com

It is sim type game so very tricky, throttle too much and you are in a spin. Might I add the CSL handles better than the 911 RSR, the RSR is way to twitchy.

Eamo-  it was fine when I took it out but it's a bit heavy in the corners, and especially now that it's the national and not the international. The scoobie is alot more fun across country but for everything else i'd take the 523 anyday. It's amazing the comfort and refinement in the 5 series when you've gotten out of something else.

Thought that was the case myself Mick - although personally I thought it was a great laugh having to jam on rapidly fading brakes to stop because some guy decided to stop and wave at some girls on the back section of the track...

Gerry in the main office told me they woulnd't allow people sign up on the day - but that was more to do with the whole hassle they had understanding the difference between sterling and euro.

Will def be attending the trackday... hopefully in a 325 ;) Its a pity about it only being the national and the price hike and all; but its still worth it.

Killian I'm willing to pay up front if that helps (as I'm sure are others).

Thanks, Ken.  Can't confirm anything yet until I get exam dates finalised.

How far/long (time wise) is Enfield from Mondello?

KB - I know you can't get new membership on the day, but what about people renewing theirs?

I guess renewing should be fine - the 'ban' on new memberships is to remove the numpty element.
PM me for more if necessary

Enfield to Mondello is about 30 minutes cross country...

Coming from the west.Exit new M4 for Enfield through Toll booth. Turn right to cross over motorway to Johnstown Bridge. 0.9mile Turn Left in Johnstown bridge There is a Hotel on the corner. After 1.4miles turn Right. Another 3.6 miles T junction turn Right. 0.6miles Timahoe Turn Left. 3.3 Miles enter Choill Dubh. 0.9miles Dagwelds pub on left hand side. Straight across Caution you are crossing a major road. 3.0miles Mondello on Right

Roughly a total of 13.7miles

The Hotel in Johnstown Bridge has a restaurant where I have eaten and I would recommend for an after track day meal. Dag Welds also serves food.

I am really hoping to join up...but can you clarify whether or not people can join up on the track-day? I am willing to take a day off work to pop down to get membership, and maybe a spin on track!

Posted By: kbannon

Ado - I'll have the forms ready on Monday.
paddy - there will be no new memberships on the day as this encourages the idiot element to come down and join up so they can get out. If you can sort out membership before then I will know who is a member even if your card etc hasn't arrived.

ahh, only BMW cars allowed. I was hoping to drive the Subaru as it is lighter and more nimble. The e39 is a better allround car but isn't really suited to track use. Anyways, i'd prefer not to subject it to that kind of abuse. It was only nct'd recently and flew through with flying colours.

Not suited to track use? Ask Fey!, I am sure he has a different opinion of that. He was throwing the thing around the last time.

Great fun for me as a passenger. We need more 5 series anyway, damn 3 series drivers...

Sure, it will do the job, but I suppose to be honest I dont want to put it through that kind of hardship again. I do want to take part but i'd prefer not to use the e39. I'm sure Richie and Topazman know what i'm talking about.

tis getting close lads.. I can smell the cooked brakes already!!! Can't wait to get M3 out..

I hear ya about the E39, Ado. Not the most ideal motor to have out, but better than sooooooo many other cars, it not not ideal either, if ya get me!  And if ya wanna go out, tis your only option @ the mo! Time to invest in an E30 325i 4dr SE for peanuts and strip it out / fit an LSD?

I am now officially depressed.  Last night I got the time and date of my final exam.

11am, April 29th.

I was so looking forward to trying out the car in it's current sate to see if I could beat old times in it.

And the now infamous "Richie Burgers".

Now I'll be sitting in an exam hall trying to tell the difference between a refractometer and a dichoscope!

Welcome Luke.
The track day will be on the afternoon of April 29th on Mondello's National Circuit. Due to Mondello costs, it will cost each driver €200.
There will be two groups - a novice/low power group and a higher power /more experienced group. The groups will go out for ~15 minutes while the other group pits for a quick break and let their cars cool.

For more details and an application form see http://www.bmwcarclubireland.com/mondello/ - http://www.bmwcarclubireland.com/mondello/

Luke asked me to post up a photo of his car, sorry it's not the best of shots, but it's good enough to give you an idea

All going to plan, I hope to trade down the years and take this car off Luke when he upgrades to a newer BMW - aint that right luke ?

Just to say hi, have been a stranger from this site for a while. Have been distracted with downhill mountain bikes and rice rockets Starting to settle back down now again.

Heard ye were organising a track day and was wondering is there still vacancies?

My membership is only just after running out this month. Would it be ok to renew it at Mondello? Saw in a few previous posts that ye are not letting people join on the day, due to the few muppets last time (good idea).

Myself and EoinO would like to bring our e30 325 track car along if that would be ok? Would it be €200 a head even if we are driving the one car?

If the answers to all the above is yes, I'll def go to mondello and can you put myself and EoinO on the definate list please.

Hopefully see ye then,

Graham

From what I remeber it is per driver. So if you have a fleet of cars you can bring em all down and only pay €200

@ Graham - if you and a EoinO were to do that then you would be getting pretty much as much driving as others who are paying the full rate, which isn't fair.
I have apologised for the prices previously but can't do anything about it as this is purely down to Mondello increasing costs and Im keeping my fingers crossed that it breaks even as it is.

@ Luke - nice one mate! welcome. You can settle the track fee on the day if you wish. Your guest can just come down on the day - no pre-booking necessary.
