hi. i have just bought an e36 convertible on a p plate and the hood was working ok untill today. after putting it down it would not go back up! i decided to do it manually as in the owners book and pulled the lever to release the motors from the hood but the hood would not fully close. the hood lid and back window closed but front which attatches to the window screen would not go down far enough.  i have closed it again so the hood is down and now when i press the button for the electric hood the windows slowly jerk as they lower (they should be smooth and go right down to open or shut the hood)

it is a fully electric one with no handle to pull and click in place.

any body any idea what could be the problem before i send it to bmw and a large bill!

regards chris

the electric hood is in three sections, 1- back window section 2- the middle section 3-the front section which attachés to the window screen. i have manage to put the hood up now. i had to use an allen key in the top of the roof at the front to wind the roof down into the slots on the window screen and secure. some you just pull down but because its fully automatic you have to wind it down. the light on the hood switch flashes now!

when you pull the lever under the seat it releases the motors from the roof and back lid allowing you to mover everything manually. the motors just pop back in.

getting an electrician to look at it before BMW. i am hoping its a window sensor or relay as the windows wont go down like they should. they start and stop.

i feel great expense arriving!

I get a little bit of water at the top of my A pillars but nothing to write home about.

Doesnt really compare to the large holes in my plastic rear screen at the moment... Not ideal since I dont have a garage!

I've decided that since noone could suggest anything about my diverse electrical problems with the RPS that I'd let it have a week at a BMW garage, all expenses paid. At least they have a roof under which it can live!

Check the wiring between rear wing and boot lid in the flexibit. it breaks where it flexes, and as the vert has a "is the boot shut?" sensor to check it's safe to move the hood, a breakage in these wires can cause all sorts of problems.
