Hi

I have a tow bar fitted to my E34 525. Reversed in to a wall yesterday! Not particularly quickly, got close - stopped, revv'd and hit with a little thud!

My question is, what is the towbar bolted to? Will it do any damage to the chassis or sub frame? What can I do to check this out?

Cheers

I would think its unlikely to cause any damage as you would really have to smash into something to damage it. If you think about the stress that is put on the fixing points when towing a caravan for example or if you brake hard and the weight of the caravan is pushing onto the fixing points then that should put it in perspective and give you an indication of how strong a tow bar will be. I've had to do a few emergency stops whilst towing ours over the years. I wouldn't worry too much mate,  Cheers Steve.
