Hello all - first post here - be gentle :) I'm looking for some advice on getting a touch up kit for my car ('01 E46 saloon). From searching these forums, it would appear I might be able to get what I need from Halfords - I have one or two very small scratches on the door edges, and one over a wheel arch (about 5mm long) so I don't think I need to get a respray. Would I be better off trying a BMW dealer for an exact match? It's a stock colour - navy blue. Cheers!

welcome yakuza to the forum.. i would try the main dealer if it was me should not be too expensive and they should know a bit more than halfords

Give them you VIN they can pull up the exact colour match.

Yakuza, You can do that but the touch up paints from halfords can leave you with undesirable results at times. Be very careful. For the ultimate in scratch repair you need this; https://www.paints4u.com/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=5015 - https://www.paints4u.com/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=5015 Phil on these forums has used it and I saw his car in person; it creates indetectable repairs although you need some cohones to do it. I have one at home which I ordered to do a number of areas on my drivers door; unfortunately I never got to use it because someone dented the door completely and I had to get a professional job anyway. I tried the one from Halfords, tested it first on a small stone chip but didn't like the result so left it at that. ------------- Cheers, Dylan. E36 316i |

Thanks for the replies (and the welcomes!). I rang Maxwells = they can get me a pot for €12 - they just need the VIN. I'll try to sort out some photos when I've done the touchup work :) Cheers! |

They only give you a little pot with a nail varnish brush to apply it with and a little pot of laquer. The one on the mentioned website looks a much better job. ------------- E39 530d Touring |
