Hi to all! Hope you are having a groovie 3-day w/e

Me...on call for the w/e, but off tomorrow!!!

Now, I have a worry and am quite upset: On a 30mph zone, I was doing 20 and while passing in front of a gatso on the white lines, I pressed the accelarator to go just a bit faster...so I was flashed twice Mad Evil or Very Mad , but my speedo was showing below 30mph (about 25)
Exclamation So what next?
Are speed traps nuts or what Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Any ideas?

Was anyone going the other way? It is possible to set off rear facing gatso's when driving towards them (if you go fast enough!) So you may be ok!? At the end of the day if you were under 30mph even if it has taken a photo they can't do anything - i wouldn't worry

I wouldn't worry- you were going under 30 so the 2 pictures show the distance travelled and therefore the speed. the camera might be calibrated wrong.

Marie-Noëlle  - don't you remember them showing us how they checked the Speed Camera Photos when we visited the Traffic Police HQ in Glasgow with the Scottish Region? Providing you were going the speed you said you were going, sounds like something else set it off?

Neil, I have been told that if one presses harsh on the accelerator whilst been on these white lights, then the system misinterpretes the increase of torque as fast acceleration and takes it as speed over the limit...

No idea if it's right or wrong, but it seems it worked....

I was driving an automatic car at the time, so not very familiar of how to use the right foot pedal alone...and as I was only doing 20, I thought I should come closer to 25... and did what I did: floored the accelerator for a fraction of second

Unless if it was the other car

Hi Marie-Noëlle,

The way the speed camera works is that you have to be exceeding the speed limit as you pass the camera to activate it in the first place. Unless the equipment is faulty (which is not unheard of) it will not take any pictures if you are not exceeding the limit. Once the unit is activated it takes two pictures the second one exactly half a second after the first one. The police then count the difference in the number of white lines you have crossed between the two photographs. They have a formula that then calculates your speed and the more white lines crossed the faster your speed. If you pass the camera below the limit and then accelerate once you have passed the camera it will not activate in which case if as you say you were only doing 20mph as you passed the camera something else must have made it flash. Here's hoping its OK and you do not hear anything more.  Steve.

They have been known to send them out without checking the data.

There was an example of one on the traffic answers forum where the camera said over 40, but the white marks showed the driver was within the limit.

If you recieve an nip, and believe you were below the limit, request and check the picture.

They have up to fourteen days to send the nip ( although you don't have to recieve it in that time).

If you get the nip, ask here : http://www.traffic-answers.com/forum/index.php - http://www.traffic-answers.com/forum/index.php

Hi Marie-Noëlle, yes I am greedy.   We have had the silver one for about seven and a half years now. Its been the family workhorse and caravan towing vehicle. Its 12 years old, has done 107K miles and never missed a beat. Its got a couple of little rust spots on the rear arches but apart from that its great and drives like a 3 year old. I would be very reluctant to part with it. The blue one is a much nicer car but had a bad first owner who neglected it somewhat so I am working to gradually get it into A1 condition. Mainly lots of TLC.  I hope your settling in down in the central region but don't forget to try and pop up to see us in the NorthWest region. Got a nice show on at Cholmondley Castle in Cheshire on sunday if you are interested.  http://www.bmwcarclubforum.co.uk/forum_posts.asp?TID=30030&PN=1 - SEE HERE . Hope you are enjoying your Easter present. A Jaguar I believe. Very nice.  Good luck with the camera thing. Steve.
