hi i wonder if anyone can shed some light on this issue for me , while washing my 325ci sport convert this morn i noticed that the rear drivers side seems to be sitting lower than all the rest, i can slide my hand virtually to the wrist under 3 wheel arches but the drivers rear only just about get my fingers in, the wheels not rubbing the arch, but theres obviously something not quite right, and as im going to be doing some mileage next week id like to try and get an idea of what it could be.

thanks very much for any help anyone can offer..

It's probably a broken spring, I've had one & there are loads of other posts about this.  Jack it up & take look,  otherwise i've no idea!!

The springs are about £60 each (dealer) plus labour at less than an hour a side.  I replaced both sides under advice from the garage (indie), not sure if it was really necessary.  As for driving it, I don't know what damage it can do.  I probably drove mine for months before realising....

Have you noticed a bit of a tinny rattle. If so, as said previously it could be a rear spring that is broken. Its not always noticable by the feel and way the car drives. What often happens is a small piece of the spring breaks off and rattles about inside the rest of the spring. It would be more noticable over bumps or rough roads. Like FRAJ I drove mine for several weeks with it broken even towed the caravan to Nth Wales for a weeks holiday so I shouldn't worry to much with normal driving but take it easy and get it done asap.  Hope this helps,  Steve.

hello.

in the front of my A4 there was a 15mm difference from left to right that i noticed after a lower passenger control arm was replaced.

every guru and philosopher in the country had an opinion and a bill. the actual problem- 15mm difference between the new genuine arm in the passenger side and the old spurious one in the driver side.

Hello,
Just joined this forum as also need help!

I also have the same problem as Tazzy, but on my 325td, 1993, and i
ahve jacked it up and checked the spring and it is fine!?

Also checked the shocker whilst i was down there and it is fine, but car is
sat like Tazzy's, with the O/S/R wheel in the arch, but not rubbing (even
on bumpy ground), where all the rest are normal.

I'm starting to think it's cos that battery is on that side which is weighing
it down cos i've seen a few like it. Also I have a strange knocking/ticking
noise from my O/S/R wheel when accelerating hard, but not at any other
time and it only started doing this when the suspension problem began.

Please help as I think I'm going crazy!

How full is your fuel tank? More than likely broken rear coil spring/s

Mines exactly the same, (2002 330d sport)although sometimes it sits level. Havnt checked spring as yet but I can sometimes hear a mettalic ratly type of noise from o/s/r as other people on here have reported as being a small piece of the spring broken off and rattling about inside. The price of two rear springs are nearly the same as a full set of Eibachs Pro's so I know what I'll be buying!

My fuel tank is about half full. I have checked the coil springs and they
are fine, Even taken the spring out and it is fine, even lobbed it around a
bit to see it would snap due to weak joint or something and it didn't and
is same length as other side? Weird or what!
Also before you ask there is nothing in the boot!

i think the car is about due for the knackers yard to be honest, time to
buy my jag xjs me thinks
