I presume this is a free for all "wild west" affair. However, it might be worth going along for the craic.

Hopefully myself & phil (reckless) will be down driving the 325 for the full day.

We'll have new greenstuff pads allround because we dont want a re-inactment of the last days wear rate (about 7mm in 4 sessions!).
Fingers crossed we'll have the DIY cold air intake done by then too.
Also, I've pulled out some more of the carpet and insulation so we'll be a bit lighter - that stuff is REALLY heavy.
Oh and a new rocker gasket, so no more smoke screens :(

CANNOT WAIT!

Hey don't worry. Gary only drives a Micra so he's not important. The camera angle wasn't too bad Paul. If you had your lights on we could probably see the dials better. I think we can hear your brake pads wearing away.

First lap is 1:15

Here is the video of one of my last laps in Mondello. Paul (llatsni) was trying to hold the camera. (its only a little digital cam, not a camcorder). Phil, your vid was very shakey and too long. Might put it up later on. Hope this works.

http://videos.streetfire.net/video/C13A7A00-404D-4B02-987D-CABE2B0CA29B.htm - http://videos.streetfire.net/video/C13A7A00-404D-4B02-987D-C ABE2B0CA29B.htm

`Twas one of my slow laps. Here are my excuses:

1. Its at the end of the day so my tyres were hurting.

2. I locked up the back on a downchange to second on the right hander. (very hard to heel and toe)

3. Paul is really heavy and slowed me down.

p.s. have a look at the mini turbo on the video web site.

I wish I had your power luke. Your losing lots of time on the brakes. About 75 meters too soon at the end of the straight, so you're not braking hard enough. Probably losing 2 seconds just on that corner.

Don't worry about going off the track. There's plenty of run off area on the
track if you brake too late. I ran wide a couple of times at the hairpin at the
end of the straight, but it just means you go around in the middle of the
road rather that at the apex. Then you know not to brake quite so late next
time.
You will need to upgrade your pads though, or after a couple of laps your
foot will go all the way to the floor and you'll crap yourself. (Happened to me
a few years ago in my old 1.2 Stilo. They were hot from driving too fast on a
nice back road. Was shaking for the rest of the day).

i was thinking about upgrading pads, hoses, fluid but i dont want brakes that squeal under normal driving which is what most of the high quality performance pads do!!

The Green Stuff pads don't squeal at all. You don't have to go mad on hoses, but better brake fluid won't do any harm. The way I see it, if you're selling the car, just stick a new set of normal pads on and the cars looks standard. When I'm selling the Z3 the old discs are going back on with a new set of OEM pads.

I've had green stuff pads before and found them great... no squeel... very strong breaking and little to no fade at all... unless you are thrashing the hell out of them. We've seen the footage  :)  They'll be perfect.

Just ordered green stuff all round for mine.... need to replace disks this year at some stage too so I'll hold off till new disks and put them all on together.

Posted By: lukeduke

the way i drove on track day the standard brakes where fine!!! but if i feel like pushing harder i should change to the green stuff!!

What do you mean "if you feel like pushing harder".... the first BDD is getting used to it. From here on in its completely involuntary... when you get on track the brain gets left in a bucket in the pits, put the helmet on.... the red mist descends and its a completely different loon behind the wheel....

Its just making sure the normal person who brought the car there did enough to keep the loon on the track from braking it....

There is nothing you can do to stop it... its genetics!

Not far off what you paid for the ATE Powerdiscs... but why would you bother changing them out when selling the car? They'll be fairly well used at that stage (unless its like next week).

Are you trying for brownie points with Pamela? She wants me to tell you that
she will have the emasculators out next time you come to the house.

Ouch, maybe it will help Paul along with the weight reduction for the track... and when you get stressed you can roll them around your hands to relieve it.

Okay lads, now we're all in for it. Pamela wants to drive the Z3 at the next
track day. I've tried to tell her that Mondello don't allow women drivers on
safety grounds but she's having none of it. What will I do now?

Where were you Luke? What a great track day. Amazing weather. (I'm burnt to a crisp). Lots of nice cars there. That mental Skyline, Aston Martin V8 Vantage and a new Westfield to name but a few. (Plenty of Civics and Preludes as well)

Only four beemers, two old 5's, an e30 and llatsni's e36 325. My first time on the international track (passanger). Can't wait to drive it myself. I didn't see a lot of messin' but a few cars were being black flagged. A new Westfield with a 250 bhp 2.0 Ford Zetec had the fastest lap (I think) 2:01 with a passanger. llatsni did a 2:17.33 and Reckless did a 2:18. I'm sure new suspention and tyres will knock 4 or 5 seconds off that.

was a class day... much more civilised than expected.
Some excellent machines out there.

I particularly liked:
- a yellow lancer (REALLY fast)
- the aston martin (taking it easy)
- kit westfield (best i've ever seen)
- the super/turbo charged alfa... THE NOISE!!!!

the 325 was great... sounded cool coming at you with the new DIY CAI, but totally silent when passing, esp in comparison to the ricers! lol.
For oct we plan to have the exhaust sorted, and hopefully the suspension and tyres which were pretty much the weakest link on monday.

Paul

Yep, was a great day. Our 325 held up really well, the cold air intake seems to be working, and makes a fantastic sound :) The dials are a bit erratic on the car, and at one stage, I was using the bark from the k&n as a gearshift point :) Paul completed the bedding in of the new greenstuff pads in about 6 laps, and the brakes worked really well all day. The tyres are still refusing to wear out, but don't give much grip either, abs was kicking in a fair bit. We'll have videos in due course.

Had a passenger spin in the Westfield, amazing.

Did you get out as a passanger at all Luke. I was out with Paul and Phil in the
325. I was quite impressed with the track. Some very interesting corners
around the back. Pamela went out with Paul as well. She liked it too. She
might drive at the next BDD. She's going to join the club as well. If they
allow girls.

p.s. I liked the Aston as well. It sounded so nice on its own, but was very
quiet compared to some of the Civics. Just think. I'll be able to afford one
when I'm about 55. Can't wait.

Well I suppose he 325 is so quiet compared with that 156 or the ricers that
you would miss it. And they were parked in the garage beside the Westfield
in the afternoon when not on the track. Would have liked to see rapidude
there. And would have liked to get a spin with him too. (Where were you
rapidude? Explain yourself).
