I recently replaced my front brake pads which were totally worn.  I've now developed a problem in that every time I brake there's a 'clinking' noise from each wheel.  I've check the job a number of times, everything is tight and fitted correctly.  The pads are certainly the correct size. The only thing I can find is a 2mm gap above the inner pads on each side which would be allowing the pad to slide up and cause the 'clinking' under braking.  I've taken a picture which demonstrates and is show below:

Is this gap normal?

I'd appreciate any advise!

Yep this is normal but the crap on the caliper is not I would suggest that you strip them down wire brush them to get all the surface rust off then clean the sliders and make sure their sparkling then use some copper slip
