Well, we are back online, albiet without the old domain name.
Just to fill you in on events over the last 24 hours.
I got a call from Eamo about how the site appeared to be down. It transpired that the club had managed to transfer the domain away from me without my knowledge. I will be seeking legal advice over this as I have worked hard to get the site looking fairly decent from a search engine placement perspective.

Anyhow, I had set up bmw-board months last night ready for the host to twiddle a few knobs to get things running.

I joined the BMW CC several years ago. I was involved along with Brendan Purcell  and others in making it what it is today. I was involved in the forum and also helped Howard with the main website. On two or three occasions I did well in the recruitment drive for the club (coming in the top 3 each time).

I feel really bitter that this has happened without any discussion. The allegation being made is that an offer was made and I was unwilling to talk. Tell me, whats the point in talking to someone who really will not listen?

I feel really betrayed. I have worked damn hard and to be treated like this is hurtful. The office (who still have not sent me a copy of the minutes of the meeting) are sending out letters to all club members (at what cost?) and also placing a 1 page notice in the club mag. The mis truths within these documents is astounding.
These were sent out to all regional and register contacts last night. Im not sure why but these were not sent to any Irish contact. I honestly don't care what they say about me - I have noting to hide.

I won't say that things have been easy - they haven't. They really haven't! Still, when I broke the news on Sunday about Jeffs, oops sorry, the committees intentions, I couldn't believe the support being given.
The decision to refuse the two offers laid down by Jeff, oops sorry again, the committee (that where we kill it immediatley or let them kill it slowly) were made by myself, Eamo and Rhys during the meeting.
Since then, despite the misleading and agressive nature of things directed towards me by the club, I have been touched by the kind phone calls from members, the words of support, the offers of financial support, etc.
I see there is a thread "Three cheers for killian". I haven't done this job for personal gain (if there is any!), I did it because I used to love the club. I did it because I wanted, like you, to discuss BMWs and have a bit of craic. I did it for all of you who come here all the time and feel at home here.
Im glad I did it and would do it again if I had to.
As for the other moderators that i work with, Im proud to be part of a team who stuck together and all believed in the same thing.

Finally, Over the last ~4 years of working with the Irish region and also the forum, I have come across many people that I could call mates. Some of them, I have never met or spoken to but it doesn't matter. Not all of them are members of the club but again that doesn't matter.

Not trying to sound like Im dying but folks, Im privileged to know you!

No Killian - WE are privileged to know YOU

Without you the original forum wouldn't have existed, and now, neither would this.

I know how much this has upset/annoyed/p*ssed off you, but you have risen above it all, and the true BMW Enthusiast will be with you all the way

Let the BMWCC whither and die without us.

You have done a sterling job, we all owe you so much, as “The Pits” says without you none of us would be here, none of use would have made the friends we have, and none of us would be looking forward to "in your words discussing BMWs and having a bit of a craic".

Thank you Killian

Sunday was one of those days where you wish you hadn't got out of bed that morning - it wasn't very pleasant at that posh golf club (wonder how much that costs the club for the marketting suite, food etc.?)..

This was also the first time I'd met Killian and Eamo, and I have to say I was proud to be there. Killian did a sterling job of keeping his nerve in front of the con-mittee (oops, sorry - typo). They didn't make it easy for him at all (about an hour and a half it lasted, with the decision allready made by the con-mittee (oops done it again, must be my keyboard) )

I wondered if we made the right decision when we went outside for a private discussion on what to do - especially as it affected several thousand members. Hopefully we did the right thing, and looking at the support I'm sure we did.

Killian, you are a star - you stood up for what you believed in, what more can you say.

Yep well done Killian, it tickles me pink that they can treat people in this way.

I will still be at Gaydon showing mine and helping to organise the E30 Register show but I am not sure of my involvement thereafter.

I admire your principles and resolution !!!

Fair dues to ye and you have my full support. If you need any help with anything, like promoting the new better forum just give me a bell.

I recently joined the club thinking that i would like to get more involved in events ect, Having read this and the threads on the E30 zone i am no longer convinced.

Well done for standing up to "the man", after all if they can do this, what else can they do? Im disgusted by it to be honest.

If you need any help with BMW-Board stickers, im more than willing to help and you have a pm reguarding this.

All the best

With reference to stickers for gaydon, even a url type sticker would be beneficial over no stickers. Once the logo is designed then i can look at producing them asap.

I got the same little letter through my door today.

I would like to know what forums they visited that everyone was using there real name on. lol. Also I would like to know what club forums they went to that only paying members can post. I belong to 2 VW forums, and Porsche Club of GB and none of them require you to be a paying member before posting (unless they have changed in the last few days that is)

Oh well. Better off with out them and K I have to say, Excellent Job on the forum. Looks wonderful and nothing appears to have been lost

I'm part of a few forums myself, which are free, jon44w is a large car site, it recieves money to pay for the site by people buying things like T-Shirts, Fleece & Stickers aswell as DVD's.

NI-BMW is another forum i'm part of, good wee site, it is basically free, last year we were charged a membership fee, which helped to pay for the site.

I havn't recieved this letter as I never paid £35 to join the club, which would be a bit of a waste IMO, as I don't drive, and I don't attend any of the shows in england or enter a car, and I only use the forum, so why should we pay to use it?
Kbannon is doing a damn good job of keeping this place going, and should he ask for money, then i'll see if I can rob a post office or some place!

why not just let you sign on, and then they can check your name and membership number are correct before activating your account

Have anyone had emails off Richard baxter and Mike Fishwick through Jeff giving their support for him - I read in Richards that K shouldn't have had the forum under him and "hold the club to ransom". I'm sorry but if it's K's money that pays for the site and the running of then damned right he should be the owner of it, really has sod all to do with the club. Rant over...

well i said it all along , i havent been on the boards long enough to decide to become a member but am glad i never , and k and the gang your doing a top job , and the club will be lost without your forum ..

K , i know your upset about the domain , but to be honest i think the new one is ten times easier to remember , and it will look great as a sticker , if i spotted it on a car , 'bmw board.co.uk' is ten time easier to remember  than 'bmwcarclubforum.co.uk/default.asp'

so everyone else get some stickers etc or something to publish the new forum when your at gaydon , and just sit back K and see the amount that registers to the forum ... cos the last week is gonna be the biggest talk at the show this year , and no doubt most will want to here the other side of the story ,

so an A4/5 counter leaflet could be an idea , explaining your side and your Original bmw forum should people ask at the show ( i know your not goin ) but others could pass them out 'if asked ' becasue peolpe are down right nosey and its an easy chance to get some more recruits ..

I had a few teething troubles with my account when i first joined and KB was very helpful in sorting it asap so i could use the forum and speak to the many helpful people on here who most i have never met before.

I shall continue to use and support this forum in anyway i can and will display the soon to be released? stickers with pride.

Iain, I'm a BMWCC member and enjoy much of what the club has to offer. Clearly stuff has occurred that has raised the pulses of many people forum and CC alike and I have no desire to understand who said what or understand whose sensitivities have been maligned.

I was at the Motor Show today.  It was generally a disappointment, with the notable exception of the BMW area, which was nothing short of a triumph and served to remind me of exactly why I love the brand.

The sooner we all leave our ego's and sensitivities at home and concentrate upon the reason we all come together here on the forum and to Club organised events, the better.

That's my point Iain and I'd appreciate it if you didn't patronise me by suggesting I haven't read or understood the full issues.

Nigel - you have a PM.

Perhaps you might like to ask Nero, StuB, John Safe, Spokey, Nick to name but a few as to my intentions.

My name is Giles Bowes, I own an M3 CSL should you care to verify this info.

I take considerable offence at being labelled a troll.

Thanks.

Giles, I can verify who you are. I have removed your Mobile Number for you. NeRo

That's impossible, your board permissions do not allow for editing posts!!

Seriously though, I have nothing to hide or be fearful of so I'm happy for it to remain

I never knew what that word mean till i looked it up

In Internet terminology, a troll is someone who comes into an established community such as an online discussion forum, and posts inflammatory, rude, repetitive or offensive messages designed intentionally to annoy or antagonize the existing members or disrupt the flow of discussion, including the personal attack of calling others trolls.

Loads of above been going on the last couple of days

wonder if there is a Troll spray on ebay

You probably need a few more posts before that option becomes available.

I'll edit it out for you, I wouldn't want you to have any problems with calls etc. (I'm one step ahead of you, I've already done it - NeRo )

what the hell happened then? I have been away for a bit and it's all gone bonkers!!

I know there was some fairly hardcore scrapping between senior bods and some moderators and/or the boss on my last visit...

I got the letter, which frankly read a little bit cowardly to me - being niceish at the beginning and all 'billy big-bananas" at the end with its bold type etc.

And about the unauthorised events, meetings etc., what the hell was wrong with organising your own events anyway? Who do they think they are? Do I need to ask permission to wipe my backside too - be it 'club embossed' bog-roll or not!?!

RRRRAAAAAAAAA!

thanks for listening.

I like the "non-club members were also being encouraged to form breakaway groups/meetings in established Regions" part. Does this mean we are a breakaway group then? lol. Better watch out or the Gestapo will turn up.

swordfish_bite  I see where you are going with this - if the CC are following the rules of the other forums, where only club members can post on their forums, does that mean that the CC has had to pay to join 16 other rival car clubs to see how their forums work

well sort of ,they say their new gang ( sorry club ) non members can view the forums .. so thats obviously what they did on the other sites .. ( if they even did )

but as said before some of the cc has never graced teh site with their presance and those who did , did on a small amount of times.. so they found the time to site on the net and find 16 other clubs and checked out their forums and sat and read each and every one of their rules ....

 yeah i believe you's

but 16 other clubs , would be good to know which ones or was it a lucky guess
