Just got my car back today having had a clutch a short shift fitted which i was very excited about and nearly did not get home. About 5 miles from home, the car started to misfire and once backfired, and by the time i was a mile away the car was struggling to stay alive. It ticked over fine, but when anything above a moderate throttle was applied the engine spluttered and struggled. The problem seemed to happen quite quickly and was progressivly getting worse.  The car was not running hot, the water and oil seem fine so have ruled out engine or water proplems and think it must be either electrical or fuel related. My list for checking are as follows

Distibuter cap, rotor arm and plugs firstly,

Airflow meter

Fuel pump, fuel pump relays etc.

More exspensive painful items like ecu, crank cylinder head etc. (God i hope not).

I know it was nothing to do with the garage as only the above two items were worked on and due to the speed of the problem occouring my conclusion is that something has failed. If anybody has any suggestions it would be most apreciated as I want my 6 back ready for heckfield this weekend.

Thanks in advance

James
