I REALLY like this. Great colour, & no wood inside.

I've been thinking of an early M-Coupe sometime late 2007 or early 2008, but early E39 M5s are getting cheaper! Running costs are horrific though

It is not that bad if you compare it to other Ms. Yes it has a 5L engine and the best you are going to get out of that is 22mpg. Drinks oil but not all cars do. Other than that it has been o.k to run.

If you drive like me you use up pads and tyres more often, but most people will get 2-3 years out of a set of pads and 1-3 years out of tyres.

I you want to mod it then it is a whole different ballgame.

TJ, that would make a great weekend car. Buy it and a cheap van or car for commuting to keep the mileage down and costs low.

Sometimes Kin we can learn a lot from the wise old folk! It's the enlightened choice - just ask Richie, he's converted.

@ Alex - if you had a weekend car though, surely you want something more extreme like the M-Coupe, Elise etc?

Well I mean weekend and going out car. But yes I probably would buy an M Roadster if I had the money. And I will own an Elise at some point in my life. I have wanted one since they first arrived in '96 and have almost bought one twice. Anyone know tonights winning numbers?

I do have sat nav.

I grumble when someone takes my parking right outside the office and I have to park in the general car park 30 meters away.

Right! I did my sums...

E39 M5 running costs
per month E36 328i   E36 M3   E39 M5
Tax €86   €92   €112
Insurance €86   €117   €166
Loan (over 3yrs) €264   €380   €650
Petrol (15.6k/pa) €210 @ E1.05/L & 29.5mpg €242 @ E1.05/L & 25.6mpg €326 @ E1.05/L & 19.0mpg
4 tyres in a year €43   €43   €73
TOTAL €689   €874   €1,327

I don't think I'd be getting my €453/month extra value out of the car to be honest; not when that €453 isn't ϊber-disposable cash for me at the moment. So I'll just have to slum it in my auld M3 for a while yet.

.. I know I was probably being ambitious, but I'd do anywhere between 5-10k p.a. with work which is all open road stuff. So I'd hope that'd bump things up!

I must post the Q in the M-forum out of curiosity and see what consumption people who don't drive a sub-1-kilometre commute @ 6,000rpm get!

Most yanks are getting 15-17 usually. it is hard to get more because you can't not drive the car hard. You will downshift just to hear the noise.
