i wanted to replace the standard front springs on my 325 for m-tech ones. my mechanic (who is a bmw technician by day) told me that he's not sure if there is more to the m-tech suspension than springs alone. he's also just told me that i have a broken rear spring.

i want to lower the front either way but should i think about a set of spurious lowering springs all round? i really only want a very mild drop and a lot of the big brands seem to do 30mm+ drops which i think is too much.

i must do something soon because it's NCT time. thanks to all...

My mate Ady (ady320ise) has gsf lowering springs 30f, 20r and the car sits fine and given him no problems, and I think the M-Tech suspension may have stiffer uprated shocks, but shouldn't give you any problems. Here's ady's car:

M-Tech suspension usually consists of revised dampers, springs, anti roll bars and bushes.

Take a look at these Boge lowering springs, seem like a decent buy without a drastic drop to me http://www.linwar.com/bmw_boge_lowering_springs.html - http://www.linwar.com/bmw_boge_lowering_springs.html

30mm is just less than an inch, that's the least available drop I have seen for the front so you may not be able to get less. The other alternative is adjustable platform struts for tailouring the drop to what you want but that's more expense.

As DSK says the whole M3 system is uprated from standard

30mm is more than an inch, or was last time I checked.

What about AC Schnitzer kit? Bet that isnt too ridiculous a drop... was thinking about the whole springs and shocker shebang for my old wreck... is it costly?
