I popped into gsf today to pick up a few bits for my e36 318ti and enquired about getting myself a haynes. After a it of picking through catalogues they told me haynes don't do one for the compact. I asked if there was much difference with the 318is saloon (I know it shares the engine) and they got a bit shirty saying they didn't really want to sell me one for the wrong car as it specifically said 'not compact'. Does anybody know of a decent manual for getting myself oily with the car, or am I stuck?

Secondly, and this is where a haynes would help, I noticed while tinkering that the engine mount by the exhaust has slipped down by about 3/4 of an inch, so it'll want replacing. Looks awkward, but straight forward in its own way, providing the bolts aren't too rusted tight. I had a little look but coudn't see the others. Where are they and are they difficult to replace, and if they're intact, is it worth replacing them?

For all things Compact, click http://www.318ti.org/forum/index.php - here .

It's an American site that is soley for the 318ti. I'm sure someone on there will be able to help.

I though everything oily at the front of a compact was standard E36 and everthing oily at the back was pretty much E30. I'd have thought that the E36 manual would be as useful for the compact as the E36 saloon/coupe. Mind you, it's not much use for them!

Cheers for the tips, nice site that 318ti one, thanks. I'll get myself a standard e36 manual asap i think, I've noticed one of my engine mounts has completely collapsed (could explain the knocking!), I've a feeling I might need it.

PS. I can't see very well down the passenger side of the engine, is there just the one mount that side?
