I have a 2002 M5 with the full comms pack. This means I have the now very old motorola phone. I currently have a Sony Ericssonas my mainphone and when I get into the car I divert calls to the sim in the motorola. Does anyone know anything about the bluetooth car kit and whether it is available as a retorfit? I can't find any information on the BMW website.

Cheers

Having recently purchased an E46 320d there was a nokia kit installed when I bought the car. I had an 8310 so it was of no use with the phone kit so bought myself a 6310i via ebay and swapped the sim card over.

I can now use the phone in the car and it is quite useful. The thing is do I have to have the bluetooth technology switched on for it to auto mute the radio when making or receiving calls ?

I've noticed that when receiving calls the person has asked me to turn down the radio when I answer. Sorry if this sounds a bit lame but Im not sure if the kit is compatible or not although these type of phones have been out more than 2 years.

Also, in the multi function steering wheel surely when I press the speech button the phone should automatically answer without having to touch the answer button on the phone.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

No, all you need to do is buy a radio mute kit which goes in line behind the radio itself, very easy to fit just plug and play, providing you have radio up front and not in the boot like me (wide sat nav) then its straightforward.

there is now an interface that plugs into the nokia cark91 normal hands free kit & bmw 3 series (non sat nav) that allows you to fully control the phone from the wheel & puts the phone display onto the stereo. Will check what other bmw's it fits. They are working on aversion fr bluetooth

Cheers BoyBimmerM3, i'd really appreciate it - also any information on what to ask for as i've tried several times at different dealerships but just get stonewalled i.e. "BMW do not retrofit them - they can only be obtained from the factory in Germany"!!

As far as i know it will interface with the Stereo but cannot say if it will be possible to link into wheel, Might be possible to interface bluetooth headunit with Multifunction wheel as most electronics can be linked

Sorry Darryl did not realise, cut short says that most motorola phones will fit with BMW car Kit, V70 mentioned, therefore V500/600 should be ok as well ( i have V500 but use Bluetooth headset). Hope this helps

My dad has an X5 and has been told that the bluetooth conversion cannot be fitted as the car is not suitable. And the dealer has said that there is nothing else they can do.

Peter mentioned that some other motorola phone can be used. Is this in the arm rest compartment? Do they allow you to use the handsfree system in the car?

Peter is it possible you could scan the magazine article and email it to me?

I have a 2002 530 sport with sat nav and had the bluetooth retrokit fitted for a 6310i. Fantastic piece of kit although it does come at a price.
The cost depends upon what age the car is and what is already in. Becasue I di not have the comms pack the wiring loom had to be changed and this is probably why tghe job took about 7 hours to complete. The cost came to just under £1700 but once in is great. The dealer forgot to install the external arial initally but after a bit of badgering, eventually fitted it (in the rear bumber). This was very usefull as it gace decent signal coverage in patchy reception areas. I generally plug the phone into the creadle in the centre armrest if I'm going anywhere where coverage is not perfect ie outside of london. An undocumented feature is that voice control is enabled (just for the phone) so you can dial numbers by pressing the speak button on your steering wheel.

Guys - all I have e46 330 ci sport with the kit for the motorola v50 (?). I want to change the phone kit to Bluetooth kit. The prices quoted to me from BMW are extortionate. I want to use the TV screen for messages and the phone book etc as it was with the motorola. If bluetooth is not available can i get a lead to replace the motorola lead to a nokia 6600 lead. Please help me ........
