Having read that I wonder whether that is what we will see at initial launch.......

NOt entirely sure about the bonnet vents but apart from that WOW! Looks
like they have another cracker on their hands, lets just hope the brakes are
up to it.

Looks pretty good. I can't see the bonnet top vents making it to the standard
car. Can you imagine the dirt in the engine bay? This has to be a proper
everyday car. Seats look good too. Suade steering wheel looks out of place
IMO. Fine on a CSL but I'd say it would damage and wear too quickly. Can't
wait to see it go.

Just look at the motor sport breeding in that car. Oh, it has none.

What about the tyres?

3 things strike me.

1) The wheels are too small still for the car!
2) Gearbox appears to be a regular manual.
3) No engine shot.

In fact on the basis of point 2. It looks like a (badly) modified 320i. The interior looks like its just a different wheel and some carbon stick on film. It doesnt look classy in those pics. Just tacky!

Thats a bit harsh, I notice the wheels look different (maybe just the
colour?) in the press shots and the Geneva shots, maybe they are still
playing around with them. I will certainly buy one, but only in 10 years
when they are cheap and chavved up with 22" wheels and neons, if cars
like that aren't banned by then.

This has been the case since the E30, so nothing new there really. Doesn't 'M' now denote marketing?

Didn't you notice the ali suspension components that it will have.....what's the bet it will be ali arms like the e30 M3......great advance in 15+ years. So there's your motorsport breeding......or not as the case may be. Coupled with the fact that it will weigh around 1600KG maybe the Motorsport breeding they are being led by is NASCAR......Un-exciting doesn't even get close....

Don't get too hung up about motorsport links - what is it competing with -
Audi RS4, that funny new Lexus sports saloon - how much racing heritage
do those cars have? BMW don't need to do all that to sell cars anymore. Most
people that buy new BMWs don't even test drive before buying - they order
because of image not performance.

All this "E30 M3 motorsport breeding and M have lost the plot" is getting a bit wearisome. I mean it's all about the motorsport. Ignore the M3s 400+bhp v8, different wings, bonnets, carbon roof etc. Ignore the unique suspension and cutting edge electronically-controlled M-diff. Ignore the completely bespoke nature of the car as a finely tuned road and track car.

Since the E36, M is more about bespoke breeding of a supercar for the masses out of relatively mass market motors. The e30 can be considered a motorsport blip in M history now. So quit harping on about it! I'll be glad when ye finally sell on your E30s and buy your next 'roadcar bred for the track' motor... plenty of choices for ye out there like the E90 320is. Or Porsche GT3.

I'm just cranky this morning - I know the E30 M3 is an icon and one of the most successful cars in world motorsport.  But it's nearly 20yrs ago! How long is the M department in existance??

And as for Lancelot3s comments on unexciting...  How does a 400+bhp rear wheel drive car with a limited slip diff designed specifically for oversteering become unexciting? Seriously! It might be a different form of excitement, but it sure ain't dull!!!

Well not really that exciting to be honest.....

1. I don't believe for one minute that the car will be set up to overtsteer out of the box....because the first numpty that drops it into to scenery backards will try and sue BMW for setting it up that way......

2. At the moment the whole car industry is on a power trip, there is a huge struggle going on between Audi and BMW for uber saloon greatness. This just manifests itself in bigger cars with more power, weighing more with crushing peformance but little subtlety or finesse. What would be really exciting is for a manufacturer to build something that weighs sub 1000kg only has 250bhp and can hand any of the uber saloons their arses on a plate. That would also be a triumph of engineering, something that BMW are so keen to trumpet at the release of every new model, but that normally appears in the form of some pointless trinket.....

Still not excited.......

I agree with you Lancelot - I'm praying Goron Murray wil get around to doing just that, maybe in conjunction with Lotus's flexible vehicle architecture... now there's a thought. But it's a tall order in todays buying environment and with the legislative demands being put on cars. Although the energy consumption and emissions issues may just bring about a turn in weight - fingers X'd!

The e46 was setup to oversteer out of the box; the M engineers even said they sacrificed alot of steering feel so that the cars steering and behaviour when on the lock-stops was optimised. It's really the M-cars USP, isn't it? You might have to push a few buttons and keep the finger held for 15sec on one, but i bet it'll do it all day once you have

With 4 M3's under their belt it looks to me like their will never be another
E30 M3 type motor from BMW. So forget about their new cars and thank the
car gods that they ever built the e30 M3 and that they still make the parts to
keep us on the road.
