Hi

Does anyone on here use the three step Meguiars Deep Crystal paint cleaner, Deep Crystal polish and Deep Crystal Carnauba Wax with a porter cable polishing machine?

I am going to buy myself a PC but I am still unsure what polish to use with it.  I was thinking about using the Meguiars stuff cos it gets a good thumbs up in the press on here on t'interweb.

Any tips anyone?

Andrew

meguires is supposed to be very good and has always had good write ups, especially as it is quite cheap.

other than that you could use zaino as that works very well when you apply it thinly (as you can with a PC)

or you could try some sonus, or chemical boys products as i have seen some good results and heard good things about them too

i'll stick with my zaino though as i love it

Well I have just had an e-mail from Meguiars saying that the products I asked about were not designed for use with a machine.

The thing is that I can buy Meguiars stuff from Halfrauds etc but I have never seen t'other makes of polish.  Yeah I know you can get them off t'interweb but I would prefer to see them in the flesh first so to speak.

its thte same with everything in life

you can get ok tools from halfrauds

you can get ok bikes from halfrauds

you can get ok ICE stuff from halfrauds

you can get an ok home hifi from currys/argos etc

but find specialists in that area and you get get the best

i.e. a decent bike shop, cromwell tools, proper car audio specialist, decent hifi shop etc

its the same with detailing stuff, only problem is most of the detailing companies depend on mail order to survive, meaning ordering over the web

i use zaino as its durabuility is awesome, which is great for me becuase i don't always have the time for a full polish every other weekend, just a wash every few weeks and it still looks great a few months later when i do get time to give it a good polish

Zaino gets a big thumbs up from me, and is available through one of the forum sponsors http://www.pro-detailing.co.uk - http://www.pro-detailing.co.uk

Or if you want something a bit cheaper you can't go wrong with the Duragloss range, available from http://www.duragloss.co.uk - http://www.duragloss.co.uk

In the article about Meguiar's in the latest club mag it says that they are bringing out their own version of the Porter Cable polisher, probably in June of his year. It says it will have a 240v motor.

I haven't got a PC but I would like one. It will be interesting to see how they price this new polisher and how it compares generally.

Hmmmm

I was going to get a PC from ebay but I'll maybe hang off and wait and see what the Meguiars one is like.  They will have to bring out a wider range of machine polishes over here then.  Their 'public available' polishes are not suitable for machine use.  Their US arm has a machine polisher and the videos I have seen via links in this forum show guys in the states using Meguiars lake country pads which aren't available over here in the shops but they don't use Meguiars polish on the  Meguiars lake country pads but use Poorboys and something begining with Menz....or similar.

One good thing about buying a PC at the moment is the exchange rate. The dollar is almost two to the pound which makes them pretty good value thats why I've taken the plunge and bought one. Not had chance to use it yet due to our abysmal weather

For prepping the paint work I'm also going with the http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/pb132-135polish.html - Poorboys after recommendation and seeing the results then Zymol to polish and protect.

Steven

How will you apply the Zymol, hand or by PC?  What type of Zymol polish are you going to use?

Andrew,

I use Zymol Carbon which I apply by hand using the little round applicator that comes with it. I also buff it up by hand. Its nice and easy to use and doesn't leave any nasty white powder or white deposits on the plastic trim. It all comes up lovely. Its quite a soft wax so needs doing at least a couple of times a year. The Zymol Titanium I believe gives a harder finish but it is a touch more expensive.

I have bought the PC purely for the prep work on the paint as that is where the really hard work is if you are trying to achieve a really superb concours finish.

Cheers  Steve.

Ah it is all becoming clearer now!

Prep with Poorboys using a PC then apply your chosen polish by hand.

Thanks Steve

poorboys is simply a brand of products.

the menz... that was mentioned is menzerna which are top quality products and they make some top notch stuff which will prep a paint surface to an amazing level using a PC and the right grade pad made by a reputable company such as lake country

lake country make a lot of pads for a lot of differnt companies

poorboys make prep products and top coat products in fact a whole range

ive applied meguiars stuff with a PC no problem.

in fact on my own cars i use zaino and i prep using pc,apply top coat sealants with pc and remove by hand
