This morning on my way to work I saw a Ferreri F50. Couldn't believe it. It
was stuck in traffic on the N4 opposite the Texaco at Lucan. Roof off. Middle
aged guy with a suit and a mustache driving. UK plates. I was going into the
Texaco anyway so I got out and had a good look over at it. Really nice and
REALLY big. Never ever thought I would see one of those on the roads here.

Just got me wondering whats the most exotic car anyone has seen gracing
Irish roads?

EDIT: It was at 9:17am. Anybody else see it?

Saw a Mercedes McLaren SLR in Denmark last summer; considering the on the road price in DK of 1.3 million Euros, they are pretty rare.

I hear there are Veyrons in this country but have not seen any...

My Dad had a friend in Denmark who had a Bugatti Type 35, went to see it once; my dad was lucky enough to get a drive in it.

I am trying to think of the most exotic I've seen here and can only think of the "regularly" exotics like A-M's, 360's, Z8's etc. I drove a Ferrari 412i once out in Dergside's neck of the woods...

Heard Ferrari were doing something at the Mansion house today in Dublin, might have been heading in for that.

F50 is a good spot, I think the rarest I have ever seen was a Maybach in the city centre, D Reg!!

Lovely Blue Bentley Continental Convertible at Mondello Park races Easter Sunday

Looked imposing yet neat with the top down

Des Cullen's son Michael (Beacon Hospital) has a Maserati Quattroporte look classey compared to the Bentley. I go to a meeting at the RIAC Dawson st. every 2 months. There can be some interesing RIAC member cars parked in the garage, the latest I had a good look at was a RR Camargue, big and angular typical of the era it was designed in.

There is a thread on boards ( http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2054985572" id="thread_title_2054985572 - Here's what I saw today ) with plenty of rarities. Bentleys I think are now too common to be regarded as special.
One of my all time favourites (seen in France):

Privileged(?) as I am to marshal on the startline at the British GP - I see a number of 'exotic' cars owned by members of the BRDC, Bentleys, Merc's....etc, but last year there was a New GT40 - stupid car, a fat/high version of the proper GT40

it included leather seats - and air-con!  I ask you, whats the point??

Lucky enough to have been in Monaco last year and saw several, ones that stand out were a Gallardo Spyder, a couple of F430 Spyders and a Lambo Murciélago driving really really slowly around Casino Square...couple of guys gestured at the driver to rev the engine, which sounded amazing.

Drove to Monaco 2 years ago... that place is exotic car central. After a while you seriously start to tune out the "bog standard" ferraris & porsches etc.

The nice ones:
- McMerc
- Viper GTS
- uber modified 430 that was doing the F1 circuit continuously, mostly sideways!
- UUUUUUUBER modified 911 turbo (filled the entire of monaco with exhaust note!)

I was at the start of the 2005 Gumball, so I saw some crazy cars. Enzo, F50, F40, Countach, Diablo, Zonda, Merc CLK DTM, Farboud GT and so on. I also stayed in the same hotel as the Gumballers and I drove over. You can imagine my shock when I entered the car park, I have never seen a carpark so full of supercars.

Was in Monaco as well and I visited the Lambo dealer where they had a Murcielago Roadster, very nice. There was a SLR, 911 Turbo, in fact every expensive car you can think of was there. Such a wealthy country.

You really need to be in another county to catch a load of nice cars. Ireland is just too small to have that many, and most of them are just hidden away. My bro was in Killarney last year and stayed at the hotel where the Audi R8 was lodging as well.

Oh I had a play with the orange Diablo as well when I was in Dublin city centre. I was in the Elise. I was behind him at one point and he reved his engine, my car actually moved from the vibration.

Hu that is a tricky one as I lived in Munich so plenty off rare metal. Guess the Ascari I saw in Wales a year and a half ago. Here an Aston Martin Vantage V8 from the 80's a couple of weeks ago and an DB6 two years ago broken down in Wicklow .....

Yeah, that's Johnny Ronan's car (developer/investor), and a rare car but a regular sight around Baggot St. and Ballsbridge. Usually double parked or on double yellows with the chauffeur either cleaning it or sitting in it ready to go round the block when the clampers show up.

In Portland a few years ago there was a Testarossa parked in front of the hotel for two days. Being an ex-Miami Vice fan I had to go over and admire the sheer undiluted eighties-ness of it. Then when I watched it leave, wonder how two people (one a woman!) could fit two nights worth of clothes and toiletries under the bonnet.

As some of the lads have mentioned already, Bentleys nowadays seem to be around alot, sure there is 2 GT continentals and 1 Flying Spur, a silver Ford GT and at least 2 Cayenne Turbos alone here in Ashbourne

I have seen some lovely cars in Monaco and San Diego, but on our roads here the best one I think was the silver SLR coming out of MDL last year, the size of it and the sound as it flew up the Longmile Road was awesome.

I was in a lovely 2006 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti for a few hot laps last year, holy sh*t it was one well finished and comfortable car inside.

Been thinking about this thread... All my exotic spotting seem to be in Denmark but nonetheless:

Ferrari Enzo (on Danish plates €2 million!); a couple of summers ago. Juan Barazi arriving at the Historic Gran Prix in Copenhagen. Unusually it was silver in colour, took a couple of pictures after he parked it in the pitlane. He was racing an AC Cobra which he promptly crashed into a barrier taking out the front corner returning with the wheel hanging off it! He was due at the same event last summer and was to bring his Porsche 917 from the UK; unfortunately he did not make it.

Also in DK a Koenigsegg coming down the off-ramp on the opposite side of the motorway; would have loved to have seen it close-up.

I spotted the aforementioned orange Murcielago a couple of years ago in Dublin, UK plates.

For Maybach spotting go to New York; it seems to have become the luxury limo of choice for some of the better hotels, which does   undermine its exclusivity somewhat.

West Hollywood in LA is great if you are foreign car spotting. We were at a trade show there last year and on the beer. Breakfast was eggs and bacon outside at this restaurant / bar beside the hotel and next door was a Starbucks.

I think we saw nearly every super car going and as for the babes buying their skinny lattes complete with the mutt in the handbag - don't think we really fitted in - slobering and letching away!!

Cars included - Most Porsche variants including a carrera, loads of Ferraris and Lambos, SLR  Mercs, lots of BMW M series and AMG MB but some of the nicest were the original US muscle cars. I know they are rubbish but the V8 sound from them is classic - even with a thumping headache.

a friends dad has an F355. An F40 on the road near Pheonix Park was a big irish spot. Maybach & Phantoms in Dublin, a Jag XJ220 in Galway. There's a Veyron on the Galway-Oughterard road belonging to some builder according to my sister who lives there, but I haven't seen it yet.

I've seen loads abroad - Veyron, 959, various AMG & Brabus in Germany, Enzo in Italy, SLR in Switzerland & Moscow, Z8 in Italy & Moscow. I've been in a Pagani, Bugatti EB110, & Edonis. Seen Lambo Murchialago, Gallardo & Diablo, a Testarossa, Diablo & T512R chasing each other by Brescia, grey & dirty 360 Stradale with plexiglass windows chasing superbikes between between Verona & Bolzano (I kept with them in my 1.4TDCi Fiesta rental as long as I could - what a hoot)... you can see a pattern here. Northern Italy is fantastic for supercar spotting.

Probably my biggest buzz was in Modena; fed up sitting @ the back gates waiting for prototypes, so strolled down to shop to buy a bit of grub. Came across a Daytona on a flatbed. went over to have a poke around, and saw inside an old garage with various classic Ferraris in various states or repair, scrap, service etc.. So I just strolled in, had a wander around, went in the back and heaps of old blocks stacked high, engines being repaired etc.. it was savage. No one even batted an eyelid at me. I took a few photos - I'll post them up tomorrow when I scan them in.

Over the years, I've been pretty lucky when it comes to seeing rare cars in the metal (or carbon fibre and all that).

Ferrari's (308, 355, 430, 360, F40, F50, Enzo, 512, Dinos!, and loads more)
Aston's - they all look the same (well all the new ones do anyway), James Bond's original shape Aston (DB5- I think). A Lagonda in England - too clean, not sure if it was ever driven.
Porsche - GT, 911 GT2/3s, loads of 911s. A few RUFs in Oz. And a rolled Cayenne here.
Two genuine AC Cobras 427s - not kit cars.
1 Ascari
4 Zondas
Lots of Lambos, old and new.
About ten McLaren F1s and an SLR.

But my favourite...
A Honda S600

been trying to think really, have been in some moderate exotics here but havent seen many lambos/ferraris and the like..

Been in an 01 S8 when it was near new, at speed! amazing for a yoke that big to go so quick!

Same goes for 03 and 05 porsche cayenne 4.5V8, unnaturally quick.

Been in a maserati 3200GT, not at speed though..

Most impressed by and really showing me up as having old man taste here was a Bentley Arnage Red label at the motor show in the nec a few years back.

You can keep your Maybachs and Phantoms, mere blips on the radar, for me
there has only ever been one to stop me in my tracks and take my breath
away, a white Lambo Countach with the doors up, as a kid in London. It
ruined me.

I was with my mum at the Lotto stand at that car show in the RDS. She
had
her press card as she was a motoring journalist back then so I got to have
a really good look at them up close. and I got to sit in all the other cars.
The best I was in was a Countach.

And lads I did say IRISH roads.

Some rare beasts I've seen here include a Miura on the N3 near Blanch, a
blue (with blue Irish reg plates) Testarossa that a friend of a friend or my
fathers owned, a Dino when I was in about 5th class in school parked in
the school car park (remember that llatsni?), a blue Diablo on the queys in
Dublin, a Porsche Carrera GT (which I sat into) in Des Cullens old
showroom, a black Gallardo by the canal in Dublin, Paddy Hannigans
Ferrari '97 F355 and now his '04 575, a lovely F430 Convertible with the
hood down and the blond in the passanger seat on the Stillorgan road,
lots of Astons, Bentleys (including 1 convertible), Porsches etc etc when
working in Ballsbridge over the last few months. And I did see that '04
Maybach parked outside that Cafe Bar place on St. Marys Road in
Ballsbridge all the time. Always parked on the double yellows with the guy
in the hat reading the paper in the front. Thats all I can think of for now.

Well I was only 10. (and they were locked s nobody could get in). I have
pictures somewhere. As part of my mums job she had a new car every 2
weeks. I loved it, she hated it. Did it for 7 years. Gave up in 1994 before I
could really appreciate them. She had all sorts of car but she told me
recently that she never had any BMW's to test. Plenty of other nice ones
though. S class Mercs, Lexus, MX-5 before it was launched here (1990)
etc etc. The most memorable was the Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo. We went
very very very fast in that. There was all the other run of the mill stuff too.
I remember going on a two week camping holiday to France in a crappy
Mazda 323 saloon sans air con. It was nice of Mazda to give her the car
but why couldn't she ask Mercedes or Land Rover for a loaner in
exchange for a glowing review???

Almost always. I basically have a camera on me to try and capture anything that takes the fancy, or anything that looks hilarious, or dodgy.....

My Fuji S304 now has a 1Gb memory card permanently plugged-in, as does my Nokia 6233 (and feck does it need the whole 1Gb in order to record up to an hour's worth of video....)

I did manage to snap a Maybach 62 near my office, but the night picture quality was sh*te...

when we were planning the wedding we saw a chap from just of the scr he had a pic of a b&g with a ferrari at powerscourt, guy was italian and hired the car for the day, stopped at lights after the photos and instead of using the brake he had the car in gear and blew the clutch, got on mobie and rand co and they gave him a 911. £600 for the day

McLaren had a showroom on Park Lane in London in the late '90's with a car and engine, etc.  Sad, but I used to make detours to go past it when there. Lamborghini also had a showroom a few doors away (when they were being distributed in the UK by Porsche if I recall correctly).

Not sad at all (unless it was a 30mile detour!). The Mac is a legend of a motor. I remember vividly when Tiff was on Top Gear with one, and went mental with excitement when he brought it on track.

I saw a Rolls Royce Phantom with 07 plates on it in Sneem Co. Kerry on St. Patricks Day a few weeks back. I was thinking that it may be belong to the Dublin developer Bernard McNamara who bought Parknasilla Great Southern Hotel in Sneem which was privatised last year by Martin Cullen. Such cars are a sight down there as the road to Sneem could be rated as one of Europes worst. Pretty cool it was, and was a pure black colour.

The best place to see lots of exotics together is the Festival of Speed at Goodwood. Absolutely incredible. When I went there was a line of about 12 F40's, several Mclaren F1's, umpteen Lambo's and oodles of other stuff. But without doubt my favourite that I have seen on the road is a guy that lives in my area just south of Manchester who has a Ferrari 250 GTO. not sure what year but they were only made in 1962 to 1964 Its in lovely condition but not absolutely concours but he does use it and I have occasionally seen him going to get his sunday papers in it. That fabulous V12  engine is the most beautiful sound you could wish to hear. I could listen to it all day, a wonderful car.

I was riding an RG500 which was nippy enough in its day, we zipped up to about 130 in places and accleration wise there wasnt much in it, my bike at the time did a 11sec qtr , i dont know what a Macca does it in but I have no doubt not much after 120MPH the car would have left the bike for dust.

As the driver turned off at the next junction we gave each other the thumbs up, was a special 10 or 15 minutes thats for sure.

I've seen that Black Maybach a few times on Dawson St. It belongs to some developer but I can't, for the life of me, remember what his name is. Can't say it looks anything much for a quarter of a million quid car.

Saw an F355 in the Pavillions in Swords yesterday. The middle 5 was missing from the badge and the car just looked too scruffy to be true. Think it may have been an MR2 in F355 get up. Didn't see the interior so can't be sure.

There was something about the Maybach 62 in the Irish Times Motors supplement recently ( http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/motors/2007/0411/1176156864121.html - here... ).  They are the bigger and more expensive version but yoou can have one for €693,000. The 57 is UK£267K so after converting to Euro, accounting for more VAT and throwing 33%VRT on the retail price, it weighs in at a lot more than a quarter of a million.
I see them frequently when at work (in Stillorgan). I see absolutely nothing inspiring in them!

Pamelas brother was contemplating getting one. He's still thinking about
what to buy. He sold his Dodge Ram two months ago because of all the grief

If he buys the 300C it will have the same 5.7 V8.

The usual 997 GT3, Ferrari 599, Gallardo Coupe, Spyder, Ferrari F430, Carerra GT were all at the driver training as well. It is crazy, at the ring you just don't get as excited as there are so many of them. I understand why people get can't get enough of that place.

Was in a white Lamborgini Countach in the Burlington years ago. Also saw a Porsche 959. I photographed a Veyron back in 2001 when visiting Berlin, it was in a shop window!!!

I saw this yoke on Sunday.... along with a few ferraris, a bucket load of Porsches.

My favourite to date has to be seeing Des Cullen hammering an Enzo round the Park a few years back. There was some howl off it. Gorgeous!

I was marshaling at the Ordnance Survey that weekend and I thought it was going fairly slow. Even the Vees seemed to have gone around faster!

I didn't see him over at that side. I thought it looked impressive down the main straight anyway!
