I was chatting to a pal in Oz yesterday.  His e46 M3 is playing up just a little.  He seems to have lost all his instruments, not a flicker from any of them.  He also has the TV option (no sat nav) and that has disappeared too.

I was loath to say it to him but it sounds like more than a fuse or a relay.  Could this be a dodgy cluster or is there a loom or local ECU that handles these functions that might be worth a look first?  Cluster failures seem to be relatively rare going by reports here it would appear.

Any one with similar experience?  Feedback or suggestions  appreciated.  He has the car booked in with his dealer later in the week but would like to prepare and wear loose fitting pants so he can bend over more easily should it be a worst case scenario!!

Dose your pal have a 'Soundlinks' type interface and aftermarket dvd player linked to the screen?

Remember a friend having similar problems and he had the above mentioned, removal of the interface from the tuner unit [in the boot behind panel on the left] sorted out his dash/tv problems.

Thanks Sporty1 - don't think he has anything like that added but will check.

Apparently he has no aftermarket kit fitted, e.g. DVD, phone kit, i-pod, etc. Hmmmm...

Might still be worth down powering the tv tuner to see what happens.......... Im assuming all fuses are good and have been checked.

The problem turned out to be a fuse.  The guy is funing because he had another local shop near to him check this first.  Still, the upside is that apparently the service receptionist has nice boobs and the dealership has good coffee (his first visit as he only bought the M afew months ago).
