Don't hold your breath....

All good then? Very nearly. The only black mark against the 1-Series Coupe is that BMW has officially rubbished any suggestion of an M version.

Apparently it doesn't make financial sense: a M1 would cost close to 40 grand - too much for such a small car.

We say forget financial sense, BMW. We like the idea of the 135i but reckon there's a real opportunity for a lightweight special to rival the iconic E30 M3 - and make the M1 the best-handling car in history.

they're not even going to make the car that the top gear article mentions - a 1-ser coup with a 335i engine

one of those cars that will probably seem smaller in real life than it does in the photos

still not a fan of the 1-ser though, i've had a few shots of a 118d and it's okay but nothing special

Maybe another Alpina?

The D3 Touring is a brilliant car

I test drove one the other day and am...speechless....It speaks for itself!

When BMW officially deny a production vehicle they are usually covering it up.

my mistake, i misread the top gear email, i thought it was referring to the 335 engined 1-ser....

"You weren't meant to find out about this one until next week, but we got a sniff of BMW's new 1-Series Coupe a bit earlier than we should and thought you'd want to hear about it.

Not only have the boys from Bavaria put a proper back end on their little 1, they've also done the decent thing and given it an engine it deserves: the
twin-turbo, 306bhp straight-six from the 335i.

And that means the range-topping 135i will hit 60mph in a fraction over
five seconds, and likely give its big brother M3 a run for its money.

That M-tag is a tasty prospect, too: check out our
news story and tell us you don't like the idea of an lightweight, loony little M1. You'll have to tell BMW too, though, as they are steadfastly refusing to build it. Boo. "

I had a drive of a 130i M.Sport end of last year and I have to say it was one of the best cars I have ever driven so I reckon the 135i must be awesome.

I reckon that the 135 will become even more of an icon in the future than the beloved E30 M3(did I really just say that??) the reason is that it’s going to be soooooooo tuneable, just imagine, after market zaust, intake and remapp and your now looking at a car with almost as much power as the E39 M5 this beggars belief

The twin turbo engine is going to be the most sought after piece of kit BMW has produced EVER now that it’s going into the entry level model meez thinks.

These wee car’s are going to hold their value SO well in resale terms as they will be so desirable sign me up the now please!!!!

This is my opinion and I’d love to hear you guy’s thought’s on it.

Sorry I’ve only caught on to this topic but news travels slow in the Middle East

Agreed black Betty, the potential for modding/ tuning is awesome on the 135. It makes for a great alternative/rival to the E92 3 series.
As for comparing it's iconic status to an E30 M3, it's far to early to speculate.
I can also see the 135 in two or three years time, being the car to have on the used market and as you said, holding it's price well.

hmm..pretty sure there won't be an M series in this model, what would they call it as there is already the iconic M1.

Maybe watch out for ACS, Hartge and Alpina 'tuned' versions of the 135 tho..  [interesting]

Found the length, it’s 4360mm which is 133mm longer than the hatch.

It's also got six pots, sat nav, DSC, hill start assistance, brake drying-pre-tensioning and fade compensation.

I'm well up for a test drive after it's launched over here.
