Cutting a long story short, I got my engine running after a 10 year layup about a week ago. I had to clean up the rotor and Dizzy cap and then it started with a bit of smoke and mis-firing but was running sweet after about 10 minutes. I ran the engine for about 30 minutes and it sounded fine.

Today I went to start the engine again and while cranking it started making a bad noise. I took the valve cover off to find one of the inlet rocker arms broken, just under the inner edge of the valve spring.

I'm thinking that, maybe, the valve stuck closed and the rocker arm could not take the pressure. Although the fuel tank was nearly empty I had added plenty of new fuel. However, maybe, the old fuel had turned bad and gummed up the inlet valve. I assume the heat around the exhaust valves would burn off any deposits.

Has anybody come across this situation?

Can someone explain the steps needed to replace the rocker arm?

Thanks
Brian
