i was driving home south from edinburgh today and was following another car. i saw a fixed speed camera on the other side of the road facing in the direction i had came from.

i dont think the car in front or myself were travelling over the speed limit but the camera flashed twice!

could the camera have been triggered by mistake?

can a camera facing in the opposite direction catch you speeding?

thanks for any info.

A camera facing in the opposite direction cant catch you speeding (at least I dont think it can). Has happened to me many times over the last few years.

If there are not any of the white markings across the carriageway they have nothing to measure your distance travelled from anyway.

Isn't this how camera vans catch the unaware speeding motorist?

They sit facing you.

Invasion of privacy or something or other.

You could have your mistress in the passenger seat, they take a photo, your wife finds it, you get busted :D

Don't the forward facing vans use Laser equiped measuring devices whereas the fixed cameras, forward or rearward facing, use Radar equiped ones.

You might be right there Sporty.

There is no flash from them right enough.  So they know they have got you without you even knowing. Boooo
