The stripping of the M3 has commenced.

So far so good the rear panel under the rear bumper is all fine and so are the sills under the extensions except for a small amount of rust on the nearside front wing.

Gary it must break your heart seeing the car in that state..

Sometimes you've to go backwards to go forward. At least all the tinworm in the bodywork (which was hidden under paint) will be revealed and get removed prior to re-spray, just as to how much...that's a different story..(fingers crossed not much more)

Brave and without doubt, a worthwhile investment, give yourself a pat on the back from me mate.

Cheers guys will post up more pics as I have just removed the side windows.

The rust under the N/S wing is a bit worse than I first thought and have removed hunners of dirt and crap from within.

I think it might be a new wing

I love taking cars to bits!

At least you know that by doing all this it will be a better car at the other end.

Realoem will come in handy when you put it back together, I found it invaluable when working on the touring.

Did you get somewhere sorted for acid dipping?

Cheers guys. Stevie just bring the beers mate that'll do.

Been at it again and the painter came up today to have a close look at the car. His oppinion is that it does not need a bare metal respray as i have already replaced the O/s front wing and door last year, the bonnet is being replaced as is the N/s wing.

So the only other part is the N/s door which is perfect as are the rear quarters. So a full respray is happening just not a bare metal one.

Heres some more pic's of the car being scotched today. Next step is to have some minor dents repaired before we block the car and the holes being sorted on Saturday.

Things are moving on now.

You would think that from the photos mate but its just adhesive for the headlining.

The car still has to have the front and rear windows removed so the scuttle panel can be replaced then it is to be blocked then it will be ready for painting

Gary, you seem to be doing a good job there so when your finished on yours you can start on mine.

I can't believe the condition it looks just now. How it looks now and how it used to look so good (remembers me of pics of the misses). Do you console yourself with the pics at night?

Alan.

Cheers guys.

Alan you need help mate. Like doctor help.

Its getting more expensive by the day. You find more wee bits that need tiding up and then you or at least I didn't factor in the cost of clips and screws(DOH!!!!)

But at least we are moving forward with it.

Toby where are the bolts/screws that allow you to drop the dash. i don't want to remove it just allow it to drop forward so as to put a fire blanket down the front of it.

I can only see 2 screws in the glove box

Gazza

It was a while ago, but they are at the side going into the a pillar area. 2 bolts through a plate fixed to the dashboard.

That's from memory. Good luck

Cheers mate.

The painter has had a look and the plan is to start blocking the paint work and once that has all been done (hopefully start that in 2 weeks time) then we can start to get the scuttle panel replaced soon after.

He's hoping the have it finished by the end of Feb.

I'll post up more pic's when we re-start

If  "the Painters" were "In" earlier she wouldn't have dropped the sprog

By the way, Happy (belated) New Year everyone

And here is some more pics of the body being sanded with 400

Well a wee update. The car has finally made it to the paint shop as of saturday.

The scuttle panel will be done whilst it's down there and then it will have the shell painted so I can at least start to put the interior back in.

Will update with pic's when I get to see it
