Yeah.. I'll give you that one, but expecting Fisi to consistently finish

in a Force India, when he had trouble in as Renault last year. Big ask IMHO.

But we shall see.

Not that it will affect Team Hibernian (because they've never won a league title for years ) but is there a team/individual prize?

I looked on the site but didn't see anything.

I think entering a decent team and spending money could be the key to winning NOT by being a tight git and getting 27 points before the roar of the engines a screech of tyres!

Remember, it's a marathon, not a sprint. Motoring maniacs will get ya!

We get Setanta here (I believe that its in the UK now also).
They are showing the F1 practice at 2:55 tonight
I'm not sure whether Setanta can show it in the UK though what with ITV having the rights, etc.

Practice 1 -

Kimi Raikkonen and Ferrari set the initial pace as practice for the Australian Grand Prix opened today in Melbourne’s Albert Park, in 39 degrees Celsius ambient temperature and a healthy wind.
The first 45 minutes saw the Ferraris battling each other for fastest time, with Felipe Massa gaining that with 1m 27.524s ahead of Kimi Raikkonen 1m 27.709s. Behind them, the Toyotas looked quick, with Timo Glock on 1m 28.913s and Jarno Trulli 1m 29.014s.
Then the McLarens came out and Lewis Hamilton worked down to 1m 27.386s to go fastest. Right at the end Raikkonen did two laps quicker than that, the better of which was 1m 26.461s. That compared very favourably with his pole time of 1m 26.072s from last year despite the ban on traction control and engine braking.
Hamilton’s late response was 1m 26.948s, a difference of only 0.487s suggesting that the two teams are evenly matched. Heikki Kovalainen got off to a good start in the second MP4-23 with fourth fastest time of 1m 27.114s, just behind Massa, who had improved slightly to 1m 26.958s.
Mark Webber gave Red Bull a timely boost with a late fifth fastest run, of 1m 28.263s. That edged out Fernando Alonso, who got along well with the Renault R28 for 1m 28.360s. Robert Kubica was another late improver, lapping in 1m 28.579s in his BMW Sauber which bears distinctive nose fins atop the scuttle.
Glock’s 1m 28.913s stood up for eighth overall, with Sebastian Vettel pushing ahead of Trulli for the ninth best time. The German lapped his Toro Rosso in 1m 28.957s, beating the Italian’s 1m 29.014s.
Jenson Button looked better than expected in the Honda RA108 which he rowed round in 1m 29.124s for 11th ahead of Giancarlo Fisichella’s Force India (1m 29.230s), David Coulthard’s Red Bull (1m 29.301s), Sebastien Bourdais’ Toro Rosso (1m 29.363s), Rubens Barrichello's Honda (1m 29.533s) and Nick Heidfeld’s BMW Sauber (1m 29.561s). Coulthard’s car expired in the pits with a smoking gearbox, while Heidfeld stopped out on the circuit at Turn 10.
Adrian Sutil was 17th for Force India on 1m 30.155s and Nelson Piquet 18th for Renault on 1m 30.357s. The young Brazilian rookie had a difficult morning, bringing out the red flag briefly after spinning and stalling.
The Super Aguris did not go out until the end, Takuma Sato working down to 1m 31.048s for 19th, comfortably ahead of Anthony Davidson’s 1m 31.771s.
It wasn’t a good morning for Williams; Kazuki Nakajima lapped his FW30 in 1m 35.053s for 21st, while technical problems prevented Nico Rosberg from doing more than just three installation laps.

Practice 2

McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton was the fastest man round Albert Park in a confusing second session on Friday afternoon, which saw Mark Webber quickest for a long time for Red Bull, and the Ferraris only third and sixth.
It’s safe to say that strategies for the afternoon were many and varied. Most people tried the soft Bridgestone tyre option, and both Hamilton and Webber set their times on them. The Briton lapped his MP4-23 in 1m 26.559s, 0.914s faster than the Australian, who wheeled his RB4 round in 1m 27.473s.
Felipe Massa did 1m 27.640s on the soft tyre for Ferrari, before spinning, then came McLaren’s Heikki Kovalainen (1m 27.683s), Red Bull’s David Coulthard (1m 28.037s on the soft tyre), Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen (1m 28.208s), Toyota’s Jarno Trulli (1m 28.292s), Williams’ Nico Rosberg (1m 28.352s), Force India’s Giancarlo Fisichella (1m 28.469s) and Toyota’s Timo Glock (1m 28.582s).
Coulthard stopped out on the circuit at the end in his Red Bull, Raikkonen and Glock had off-course moments, and Massa, Fisichella and Trulli all spun. Trulli did not get his Toyota going again.
Jenson Button made no mistakes on his way to an 11th fastest 1m 28.632s on the soft tyre for Honda, with BMW Sauber’s Nick Heidfeld (1m 28.731s), Renault’s Fernando Alonso (1m 28.779s), Honda’s Rubens Barrichello (1m 28.849s) and BMW Sauber’s Robert Kubica (1m 28.860s) completing the runners below 1m 29s.
Kazuki Nakajima was next for Williams on 1m 29.077s, then came Adrian Sutil in his Force India on 1m 29.161s, Sebastian Vettel on 1m 29.193s for Toro Rosso, Nelson Piquet, whose unhappy day continued with 19th fastest time of 1m 29.518s, and Sebastien Bourdais who took the second Toro Rosso round in 1m 29.605s.
At the back, Takuma Sato survived an off-course moment to head Super Aguri team mate Anthony Davidson, 1m 30.663s to 1m 31.527s.

Yeah... shame about Kimi....... Italian reliability.

Kubica did very well, as did the Honda's compared to last season, lets see how this all pans out tomorrow, when fuel loads will be revealed.

Remember that the regs have changed, no fuel top-top anymore after Q3 - so the grid reflects the fuel they have left to start the race.

Should be interesting

Your not kidding! wow that was somethin' else.

It seems the FIA have made the sport more dangerous without Traction Control (irony is, the FIA changed the cars back in 2004 IIRC from V10's to V8's because they deemed it too dangerous) go figure

(Note for Pitsy: although there was a limited V10 racing the next season)

I honestly think Kimi had a hangover  I couldn't believe he tried to overtake Kovaleinen on turn three late braking without engine traction control, when all he needed to do was just stick with him as the pit strategies would have panned out in his favour.

Well done though to Quick Nick and especially Nico Rosberg, who had a solid race

Rookie, Sebastian Bourdais was my man of the race, pity the car let him down on the 3rd last lap (yet another ferrari engine failure!)

Like I said.........

Hamilton was doing well through most of last saeson and look where he and Mclaren ended up. Anything can happen.

I did think it seperated the real drivers from the wannabees though. I think Hamilton drove impeccably and the lead he kept pulling out was fantasic. He'd already pitted 2 of the times when the safety car came out but whereas others tried to use it to their advantage, he just made use of the ground he'd already made up and kept pushing getting the fastest lap and overall average speed and he's how young?   Definatley a Schumacher without the attitude and arrogance!

The rule changes have brought back the excitement that used to have me watching Senna, Prost, Hill etc. Those days are back and I'm already looking forward to the next race!

The whole race kept me glued from start to finish. All three drivers who made the podium thouroughly deserved to be there although it's a shame about Raikkonen but these things happen. I did laugh at the Ferrari's though .

I already predict the top three teams this year as:

1. McLaren

2. BMW

3. Honda/Ferrari

And of course Hamilton as champ!!

Mike

Rossi... fairly academic when the engine lets go.... as did all the ferrari's/ferrari engined cars that made it past the first lap.

Definately a case of Fix It Again Tuesday! they need to sort it out... bring back Todt.

Wouldn't discount Ferrari just yet.... remember last years.

Should be interesting

There's just no fuel burn anymore, fuel for the top ten is still 'locked off', and going from when they first stopped Kubica's car was lighter than Lewis', but he wasn't far behind, 2 laps, while Heikki stopped IIRC 4 laps after Lewis?, so who had the faster outright pace?

Well question.... how can someone who has been groomed since he was 11 by Ron Dennis and Mclaren be 'your average guy'. If he wasn't doing well then there would be something wrong.

Is that not arrogance?

The p!$$ poor performance of the ferrari's proves they are missing Jean Todt.

As I am led to believe, Ross Brawn is taking a back seat just now, to take in how Honda F1 Racing operates and then implement changes where he deems necessary. Watching this one with interest.

Had to laugh at Barrichello's disqualification for running a red light in the pit lane tho when the safety car was out on track, shame though, he was doing quite well...

come on then, reveal yourselves AAAAArdvarrkF1 and super kacak

Nope, i'd call that modesty. The guy has a talent and doesn't rub anyone elses nose in it. What he's saying is, apart from the fact he's in F1, outside of that he's a normal guy. He's not a primadonna. It's like in football, look at players like Thierry Henry and Michael Owen, both enjoyed excellent careers in football but both played it down and insisted they are just doing what they enjoy, the fact they are good at it is merely a bonus. Sheepwhacker on the other hand was good and told everyone so, that is arrogance.

I suppose it's possible he plays down his arrogance using his modesty but if you ever catch a glimpse of the documentary "the billion dollar man" (I think that's what it's called!) it shows Lewis from his early days and even a day on Blue Peter, racing a radio controlled car at the age of about 8. A psychiatrist analyses his facial expression and reaction throughout and says even at such a young age he shows signs of ultimate composure and the desire to win which is very rare for a child. She said as far back as a young boy, he already had a winning formula built in, long before he met Ron Dennis. If the show is ever repeated, I recommend it!

@ Rossi..... The AAAAArdvarrk is known, but as it was done by PM I believe anominity is desired for the time being at least.

super kacak has yet to reveal him/herself.

@ Mike when your seven times F1 world champion you can afford to be a little arrogant, just as Henry is when he's put one in the net..... where has Lewis acquired his in car celebration from? The fist pumping........ looks very 'Sheepwhacker' as you put it, to me, and where has he gone to live?...... and we know he can also thrown his toys out of his pram we saw that last year although he is, on the face of it, more gracious in defeat.

If he's an 'average guy' then you and I, and everyone on this forum are well below average............. he's far from your average guy.

BTW... did you sort out the miss fire on the engine.

I can see your point, I still hate sheepwhacker though!

On that programme I mentioned, the psychologist said the thumping the air in triumph is a show of a desire to win and the relief and determination put into the race. Another part of the winning formula. I guess you've either got it or you ain't!

As for the misfire, to be honest, I keep forgetting about it. You tend not to notice it in a V8 lol!  I am getting a set of plugs this weeka nd finding a free weekend to do them all, fingers crossed.......

That's fine, Im not asking you to like the guy, but you have to admit he knows how to drive....... a very interesting scenario would be Hamilton V's Schumacher in the same equipment... may be when Schumacher was a little more in his prime.

Had it not been for the stuck wheel, Hamilton was on for a podium. As mentioned though, they have a funny way with stratigies, one day they cream the others then do this? Perhaps a better strategist would help. Hamilton did seem to struggle on those tyres and the N/S front was worn very quckly also a few times he locked up due to understeer so the tyres which supposedly had more grip still caused understeer with the rest of the cars setup. I was hoping those big clouds that loomed in the distance would have played a part, THAT would have been interesting and may have played into McLarens hands, having said that, Ferrari always were good in the rain, especially with sheepwhacker.

Either way, lets hope it's lesson learnt and on with the next race in a couple of weeks.

Watch your back pitsy, I'm comin for ya!

BTW, did we ever find out who the AAAAARDVARK is?  coz I'm comin for him too!

Mike, the Arrrrrrdvark has made his identity known to me, it was done via PM so my guess is he wishes to remain anonimous for the time being at least, although gaining only one solitary point from Malaysia he's not a threat......... it's early days.

However..... super kacak's identity is a mystery, and as he/she has just jumped ahead of me, if they don't make thenselves know by the end of the week, i.e. Sunday 30/03/08 they will be black flagged form the mini league......... PM's are welcome.//

Yes, I just checked, 'tis a bit on the slow side today. Have they recorded it and forgotten to watch it?

One thing is for sure though, if Hamilton and McLaren don't pull their finger out, Ferrari are going to wipe the floor with them. They just don't seem to have a 'well oiled machine' at the moment and it's going to cost them dearly. Hamiltons car didn't seem right today and he seemed a little over cautious coming out of some corners. A bad weekend all round for them. BMW are looking fairly strong and Honda have another improvement up their sleeve, with Ferrari looking as though consistency has been found, McLaren have got their work cut out.

Kb not sure but, would hazard a guess that if chassis, engine or driver are out with the top 8 point scoring finishers, then they are into the negatives respectively.
Good result for BMW-Sauber over the weekend, Well done !
Honda are my dark horse for this season but, early days yet, Ross Brawn has still to settle in.

Wouldn't worry too much at moment, still early days, besides there is only one direction Pitsey is headed in.
