Arrows was never Jordon - it was formed by a "breakaway team" from Shadow (The five founding members were Italian financier Franco Ambrosio (A), Alan Rees (R), Jackie Oliver (O), Dave Wass (W) & Tony Southgate (S))

Their first car FA/1 was a straight copy of the Shadows DN9

Arrows sort of became Minardi....... which then went on to become Super Aguri F1.

No, wrong on both counts

Arrows went into liquidation at the end of 2002 (after going through its Arrows>Footwork>TWR-F1>Arrows phase ) but some of its assets (but not the name) were bought by Paul Stoddart who had bought Minardi from Giancarlo Minardi - who formed the team in 1979.

Minardi was sold to Red Bull, who renamed it Scuderia Toro Rosso.

Yes KB, I take your point, but those are only engine changes, and McLaren have gone through a few of those as well

It's bad enough trying to get the team buyout changes without introducing engines - you'll be wanting all the name changes due to primary sponsors next!

Which is why I said it sort of became Minardi.......

Dietrich Mateschitz/Mr Red Bull and Gerhard Berger I would guess as they are 50/50 owners.

No one's spotted the easiest one.

Toyota F1 = Toyota ...... but can trace it's roots in motorsport back to 1957

Technically Enzo first went racing with Alfa Romeo's, so could be argued that Alfa Romeo turned in to Ferrari, as far a racing was concerned, anyway. Although they raced under the Scuderia Ferrari name.

I had a few spare moments, so............

BMW Sauber – Sauber was founded in 1993 (with Ilmor engines), 1994=Sauber Mercedes, 1995/6= (Ford), 1997-2005 (Ferrari), and in 2006 was bought by BMW

Ferrari –was founded in 1929 as Scuderia Ferrari and raced for Alfa Romeo until 1939. First competed in F1 in 1948 – the oldest team in F1.

Force India – formed in October 2007 after buying the Spyker F1 team – Spyker bought out the short lived MidlandsF1 team – MidlandsF1 competed in 2006 and was created by the renaming of the Jordan Grand Prix team – Jordan competed in F1 from 1991 to 2005 (and gave Michael Schumacher his F1 debut at Spa in 1991)

Honda – first appeared, with their own chassis and engine, in F1 in 1963 (at that time only Ferrari and BRM did the same) they won a GP in 1965 and 1967, but withdrew as a team in 1969. Engine supplier only 1983 to 1992. 1993 to 1998 engines supplied as “Mugens”, and then in 2000 committed as a full engine supplier to BAR. 2005 became the sole owner of BAR, and the team became Honda Racing F1. - BAR was formed in 1999 after the acquisition of Tyrell. - Tyrell started racing in 1958, and entered F1 in 1968.

McLaren –was founded in 1963, current team formed in 1981 by the merger of the Bruce McLaren racing team with the Project 4 team.  (Employed Ayrton Senna 1988-1993)

Red Bull Racing – owned by Red Bull (as is Scuderia Toro Rosso) – formed from the Jaguar Racing F1 team in November 2004. – Jaguar Racing competed in F1 from 2000 to 2004. It was formed from the purchase of the Stewart GP Racing team in June 1999. - Stewart Racing was formed, with backing from Ford, in 1996.

Renault – (have competed in F1 as an engine supplier and as a constructor from the late 1970’s to the present day, with many breaks) – the current team took over Benetton in 2001, and it was renamed Renault in 2002. - Benetton Formula Ltd was formed at the end of 1985 from the Toleman & Spirit teams. - Toleman entered F1 in 1981, and one of its claims to fame is to have first employed in F1 a certain Ayrton Senna who raced for them in 1984 - Spirit only existed in 1983 & 1984 as official entrants in 25 grand prix – they actually took place in a lot less!

Super Aguri – was founded in 2006 by former F1 driver Aguri Suzuki, and although based in Tokyo it operates out of the former Arrows factory in Leafield.

Toro Rosso – racing debut 2006 after Paul Stoddart sold his remaining interest in the Minardi team. – Minardi was founded in 1979, and competed in F1 from 1985 to 2005

Toyota – announced their intentions to enter F1 in 1999 and made their debut in 2002 – previously known for success in (and being banned from) Rallying.

Williams – was founded in 1977 as WilliamsF1 (but previously appeared – unsuccessfully - briefly under the banners of Frank Williams Racing Cars and Walter Wolf Racing) (employed Ayrton Senna** in 1994)

**Ayrton Senna da Silva raced for Lotus 1985-1987

It was a perfectly simple question for what I considered to be experts in the realm of motor sports.

Having mulled over the question myself for a while (like the last couple of years) I knew it would be a rather perplexing challenge and one which would be taken on with the verve and vigour of a cat chasing its tail!

Carry on my friends (I admire you thepits) I will voluntary ban myself for a couple of weeks, maybe.

Does anyone know the true meaning of pi? Or of life itself?

Firstly, while a fan of motor racing, I cannot claim to be an anorak and to this end, this has been educational, so thanks Jack for starting it and Pitsy for being the teacher.

Secondly, I have now found out that pitsy does do constructive things in his spare time.

Thirdly, Pi is a circles radius in relation to the ratio of it's circumference, in laymans terms, if you had a circle and marked a point on it's outer edge then effectivley rolled it so that the point went full circle, the distance the circle would have covered would be 3.1415 times it's own radius. Pi (often written as TT - sort of!) comes from a greek word (though I have no idea what it is!)   Pi is what's known as an irrational number, i.e. it has to be represented using decimal places and doesn't repeat or ever end and cannot be written as a fraction.

Fourthly, I do not know the meaning of life, but I do know it'd be easier to work that out than working out how a woman works!

Mike

They don't fit in the Current F1 structure, which was the original criteria.

Dallara -

Brabham - founded in 1960. Jack Brabham drivers championship in 1966 remains the only victory by a car bearing the drivers name. Owned by Bernie Ecclestone (who?) during most of 1970's and 80's, sold in 1988 - whilst owned by Middlebridge, midway through 1992 it collapsed financially.

Lola - Still alive, but not in F1 - as well as the aborted attempt in F1 in 1997 with MasterCard (lasting one race) they have assisted over the years with Honda, Embassy-Hill, Beatrice, Larrousse, to name but a few.

Onyx -

Moda - In 1991 Andrea Sassetti bought Colini F1 and formed Andrea Moda Formula. In 1992 they wasted a lot of peoples (especially Perry's ) time trying to Pre-Qualify, until Saasetti was arrested for alleged fraud, and eventually the team was turned away from Moza as the FIA had banned them for bringing the sport into disrespute!

Larrousse - formed in 1987 by Didier Calmals & Gerard Larrousse under the name of "Larrousse & Calmals" until Calmals was arrested in 1989 for shooting his wife!  The car was built by Lola, in 1990 one of the drivers was Aguri Suzuki, who scored their first podium. They struggled on until 1994, and finally folded in April 1995

Footwork -

Pacific - founded in 1984 to run in Formula Ford, entered Ford 2000 in 1987, F3 in 1988 and won the title, then to F3000 winning that title in 1991. Intended entering F1 in 1993, but postponed until 1994,  the year was a disaster not winning a point,  so in 1995 merged with the dying Team Lotus, but at the end of that year withdrew and went back to F3000.

Simteck -

Onyx: Initially the former F3000 teams entry into F1 was backed by Belgian Jean-Pierre van Rossem of the Moneytron investment company, however when Moneytron ran into financial difficulties during the 1989 season the team was sold. After being briefly owned by the Middlebridge Group (also owners at that time of Brabham), the team passed to Peter Monteverdi. Only lasted one and a half seasons due to reliability problems, inexperienced race engineers ultimately leading to an incompetative car. Hungarian GP was their last.

Footwork: Pretty sure they were a spin-off from the Arrows using the Honda 'Mugens' engine..(TBC)

Simtek: Not much info, other than seeming to remember Jos Verstappen driving for them in the early nineties..
