Subject: Dents-Out Day - Saturday, the 5th of July ??
Date Posted: 16-May-2008 at 17:48

I was in touch with Rob today, he is the guy who did the fantastic work in removing the dents during the dents-out day last year in the Spawell carpark organised by KenM325Ci.

So, I am looking to organise another dents-out event for this year. The date I am looking at is Saturday, the 5th of July in the Spawell carpark, Templeogue. I personally have some holidays coming so it doesn't really suit to have it any sooner. A saturday would also suit Rob, and I am sure will suit most other people too.

The price is the same as last year, €60 per panel, regardless of the amount of dents, and if there are two panels, for example 2 doors, the price would be €100 as opposed to €120.

I had several small dents in the boot-lid of my E36 convertible at the time, and I can say with all honesty, the boot-lid afterwards was immaculate, and a job well done.

So the questions remain, how many people would be interested? And does the date suit? If I can get a few numbers together I can contact Rob again and arrange times and the finer details!

Cheers

Paddy

Topazman, is Rob doing the one for Driver.net as well? Maybe try and do them both on same day, joint effort type of thing?

Cheers!

With Topazman's posts above, I am assuming most people are availing of the Driver.net dents removal day. The date mentioned does not suit me as I can not get the time off work.

As my first time trying to organise an event here I was hoping for a good few numbers interested, but unfortunately it seems my timing is a little off.

I will ring Rob on monday and thank him for his availability but will cancel the dents-out day due to lack of numbers.

Thanks

Paddy.

I was away for the weekend so I didn't get a chance to post but I am interested, July 5th looks fine to me.

Paddy - I'd give it a few more days yet before knocking it on the head.  The weekend is often a bad time for people to respond so don't judge entirely by the response over the weekend.

Sorry for the delay in updating, had some bad news about my granny over the last few days, was looking bad for a while but she seems to be pulling through....fingers crossed!

Anyway, with regards to the dents-out day, I did not get a chance to ring Rob, so if anyone is still interested, let me know and I will go ahead anyway and book him for the date mentioned.

I will be probably wait until the weekend or this time next week to see what the numbers are like if that suits!

Cheers guys!

Hi, my E30 is not ready for the road yet to avail of the dent out day but I have a non BMW that has a few trolly dents on the passenger side. Can non-bmw's take part and would trolly dents be able to be removed? I'd have 95 r so miles to do to get there so don't want to be wasting my day!

Can I bring a non BMW machine - some clot put a tiny dent in the driver side passenger door in a car park and some other dope scratched the rear bumper in a car park over the weekend.

The scratch might polish out but I woul dlike to have a look at getting the dent removed - whats the process involved?

Can't have anything in this country

Sorry for the delay in updating guys, having trouble with the NTL broadband at home so can only access in work now, and thats scarce enough at times too......

Anyway, I need to contact Rob to confirm the date and time, I will get this done over the next day or so.

There are a couple of non-BMW's attending as well so numbers should be ok, and I'm hoping the weather holds up!!

Non-BMW's within reason.....HAHAHA

The story so far......

Rob is confirmed for Saturday July 5th, Spawell carpark, Templeogue, at 10:30am.

It will be a staggered event so the delay for the late comers will be minimised. So what I was thinking is maybe two cars at 10:30, another two cars at 11:00, and two cars at 11:30, and so on and so on.

Would something like this suit people or would you prefer to arrive at the same time?

Agaafear, it's coming in at €60 per panel regardless of number of dents, and €100 for 2 panels, for example 2 doors, again regardless of amount of dents.

I will probably hang around a while too, just have the NCT to look forward to after it..........

That wound like value.  I have some dimples on the rear left side panel that can be seen at certain angles.  No idea how they got there but I'd love them removed.  I have one gash on the bottom of the same wheel arch - near the door - and I do know how that got there!

Posted By: agaafear
Date Posted: 14-June-2008 at 16:08
I assume a gash that requires painting is not included?

Posted By: paddy_d2k2
Date Posted: 14-June-2008 at 16:35

Depending on how deep and severe the dent under it is, Rob might be able to massage most of it out from the inside, but if there is paint gone, either way it will require painting.

I think also, if the dents are on corners or rounded/pressed lines on panels it would be more difficult to work out.

Cheers

Quinn want to give me under 4k to write it off and leave me with the car. Damage is expected to cost closer to 5k to fix.

Its my guy's assessment. Its quite possible that it could be done cheaper, but I still have to wait until I have a cheque.

The current situation is that I effectively have no car (not even a hire car anymore), no money yet to fix it and still a feckin sore neck! I'll have to get two busses to work for the next few days making the overall commute to and from work about 3-4 hours per day!

I waxed my car last week - for the first time - and I really want these dents removed!  I don't know how they got there, but I suspect shopping trolleys or the users thereof!! They're very slight and in the upper part of the rear left side panel.

Posted By: Dergside
Date Posted: 01-July-2008 at 10:06

Just a thought on mine, the main knock I want to sort is on the edge of the door, obviously where a previous owner banged it off something.  I know that some dents aren't really suited to this kind of fix and am wondering if this might be one?

If its a problem, I do have a reserve car that has a few more traditional battle scars!

@ Agaafear, I am ringing Rob today just as a final final confirmation, but by all means it still is going ahead and the date and time has been confirmed already.

Time is from 10:30am Saturday 5th July, at the Spawell Hotel, Templeogue. With 2 cars each half hour after that. The list of names is not too long so shouldn't be major queues or delays.

@ Dergside, some of the dents are awkward to do alright, if they are near seam-welds or formed lines, contours etc. But ultimately it will be decided on the day, Rob might be able to do something with it, and sure maybe try get both cars along!!!

Update shortly when I make the call.......

Cheers folks,

As Dergside suggests, the best plan is to allocate time slots for 2 motors every 30 minutes.

Can I just try verify who is actually coming along so I can try work out times that suit everyone?

I have my NCT that day so I will have to try get done in the morning, but flexible enough on time slots....

Cheers

Paddy

Paddy

As I'm travelling from the sticks a later slot would suit me.  The car isn't the only thing that's a bit slow firing up on a Saturday morning!

Paddy,

Bit late getting back to you, i'm travelling from Waterford to Cavan this eve and have to be back in clonmel for 2 tomorrow so will have to give it a miss unfortunately, bodywork could do with a bit, front bumper and bit of a paintjob the dents can wait, presume its a meet that comes around every 6mths or so?

Apol for the delay again, fingers crossed the rain will stay off, hope it goes well, if anything changes in the meantime i'll drop in, if a slot opens all the better if not no big deal.

Barry

I will leave some times available if anyone just wants to pop along but would the times below suit everyone?

1) Paddy / Martin @ 10:30

2) Bayerische / John @ 11:00

3) Agaafear @ 11:30

3) Dergside @ 12:00

Apologies if I have left anyone out, but feel free to pop along anyway, hopefully it wont keep you too long anyway.

I cant log back on tonight but if anyone needs to contact me, PM me with your number and I will log in first thing tomorrow morning and give you a shout back.....sorry if it is a bit messy, trying to get a few things sorted for the NCT tomorrow afternoon.

Cheers folks

Paddy

Great job by Rob and fair play to Paddy for organising it.  Must make an extra effort to find a nice old BM again.

Very pleased with the outcome on my car too.  Rob sorted out the main one I had wanted to do and picked up on a couple that were small but definitely there (but not any longer!).

Thanks Paddy for organizing, its something that has been on the long finger with me for ages and would probably have remained that way otherwise.  Hope your NCT went off without a hitch.

As always, it was nice to shoot the breeze with fellow petrol heads for a while too!

Glad you are happy enough with the work guys, happy out myself with the results.....focus on the condition of the paintwork now!!!

Thanks to Rob for travelling up from Portlaoise to give us the dig out!! Work well done thats for sure!

Unfortunately my car failed the dreaded NCT on suspension ball-joints, both sides on front, have to contact the dealer now to try get them done under warranty, which he told me he will honour.......saying and doing now are two different things! Fingers crossed it will be sorted in a week or so when I get the time off work!!

Thanks again to all who turned out despite the possibility of bad weather, luckily it held off pretty well for the bits that needed doing!!

Must try get a few more events organised soon.......

Take care, cheers!
