Hi Guys, i have a e46 323ci 1999 reg im having trouble with the accelerator. the problem is that the gas pedal is very firm. It feels heavy comparing to the other cars I have driven before. Is this normal? Someone said I might need to change the accelerator cable. I was wondering if you could suggest anything? Have you ever experienced a similar problem? thanks. Volkan |

Hi, i got used to it but it still feels a little bit heavy after having the car for 6 months. My wife says she can feel the difference even more as she doesnt drive my car very often. I sometimes feel like the car accelerates suddenly at the 1st gear because I feel like i should push it a little bit further to move off, it is usually hard to adjust. As you said, perhaps this is a BMW thing and is normal, is there any reason for it? Thanks. Volkan |

Sounds like the best bet would be for you to meet up with one of the increasingly large number of NE based forum users and have a wee sit in one of their cars to compare throttle travel? There's an NE meet on the 17th of August? -------------

Our old E36 compact (2000 model M43) was exactly the same and suffered this for ages to varying degrees, some days it was fine, other days it was really sticky. New cable or lubrication of the joints didn't fix it. New cable is pretty easy to replace and isn't that expensive. I would check the underlay behind the pedal as this can 'creep' and become wedged beind the pedal, making the carpet rub against the underside of the pedal causing it to become harder to press. Peel back the carpet and have a look at the underlay to see if the lever has left an indent in it, if it has get the stanley knife out and cut a notch in the underlay to remove the indentation. Also make sure that the cable tension is right on the throttle body. Start the car up and let it idle. Give the barrel adjuster a turn to tighten it until the revs start to rise, then back it off until they go back to normal. As said if its the cable it won`t cost mega money to fix
