was up at the crack of dawn(6.30am saturday) yesterday to head out to lovely Penicuik to tie up wie Paul(vpricey) to see what he could do wie my fading and scratched paintwork. arrived between 8.30 and 9.00 after being rescued by Paul due to that blasted SAT NAV taking me down some cul de sac

car was washed by pauls friend Ian (very nice 130i). I thought then my god it's already cleaner than I ever get it and they've hardly started.
Paul soon got to work and started off with the bonnet and quickly realised it was going to be a long day. after an hour or so he was getting nowhere the repainted bonnet was like concrete so we decided to carry on with the rest of the car and come back to the bonnet last.
meanwhile I started to remove the wheels to clean and polish and attack the arches while the wheels were off.
the hours were passing quickly and due to the state of the paintwork it was one step forward and two back.
the wheels were done and I moved onto waxing the car. as darkness was beginning to fall I was starting to look for a comfortable corner of the garage to bed down in for the night but miraculously Paul managed to finish and we packed up at wait for it 11pm a total of 14hrs spent.

I went to fire it up to blast home but low and behold a dead battery. after a lot of messing about we eventually got going and I arrived home at 1.26am sunday morning.

no before pics but here's some after

A big thanks to Paul(vpricey) what a job young man
.
another thanks goes to his mate Ian for a loan of his facilities I hope we didn't overstay our welcome.
and finally a big thanks to Tennants Lager for quenching my thirst at 1.27am sunday morning and again tonight

Paul you have created a monster now that I've had an insight to how clean the beast could be.

Right..........lol.

Wash...
-Autosmart G101 to clean the door sills
-Chemical degreaser to remove oily residue on the edges of the doors also.
-washed with the Two Bucket Method and Maguiars Shampoo Plus and a Meguiars Microfiber wash mitt.
-De-Tared with Autosmart Tardis
-Clayed with Sonus Grey Clay and Meguiars Last touch as a Lubricant
- Cutting Polished via Makita Rotary with 3M Fast Cut Plus and a 3M Black Polishing pad at 1500-1800rpms.
-Final Polished via Makita Rotary with 3M Ultrafina and a 3M Blue Polishing pad at 1200-1500rpms working down to 600rpms to burnish and finish off.
For the Bonnet a 3M Compounding pad was used for a couple of passes before using the above method to further improve the finish(It was like a Rock!!)
-Blackfire Midnight Sun Wax was used and applied with a Meguiars applicator pad
-Meguiars Hot Shine Tyre spray for the tyres
-Autosol and Meguiars Fine cut metal  polish for the exhausts
-Autoglym glass polish
-A very small amount of Ian's Black Wow for the Black trims of which I've still to replenish with the bottle I've just bought!!lol.

I think thats most of it. I advised Stevie to use Aerospace 303 for the under bonnet area and to get some Poorboys Wheel Sealent for the wheels since it's very good.

Cheers John,

I could  have spent 2days on it to tell the truth as it's still not perfect, but for the size of the car, toughness of the paint and time scale allowed it's a pretty damn good go at it!!

The side trims just popped off Stephen, Stevie done them.

As Polished Bliss say, wrap up all electrical components in the engine bay with something water resistant, they use tin foil on most cases if I remember correctly, and don't spray directly onto these delicate areas. And as Rich says, if it's Japanese French or Italian don't pressure wash the engine bay, so you should be fine.
