BMW works council wants to sue co for alleged secret outsourcing plans - report 08.03.08
FRANKFURT (Thomson Financial) - Bayerische Motoren Werke AG works council wants to file a court case against the company for allegedly secretly drawing up a plan to outsource its personnel services, such as kitchen and security services, Der Spiegel weekly magazine said, citing works council head Manfred Schoch.
Schoch said under German laws, the works council must be informed in a timely manner of any such changes.
A spokesman for BMW told German DPA news agency that no such secret plan has been prepared.
'The works council would always have to be involved in any decision regarding that,' the spokesman said.
BMW has previously announced plans to cut 8,000 jobs as part of its cost efficiency programme to counter the negative impact of higher raw materials prices and the weak dollar on earnings.
