Folks,

My rad is leaking bad.

How much roughly would I expected to be charged for the labour for this job at an indy (Tom Courtneys probably)? GSF have the rad in stock, so ill try grab it tomorrow.

Has anybody tried to replace the rad themselves on an E36 - is it fairly striaghtforward?

Cheers .

Its very easy to replace, literally just disconnect the hoses with a flathead screwdriver, undo the two clips holding the rad to the slam panel and it'll come up out of its lower mounts, be careful removing it around the fan (you will probably have to disconnect the fan cowl)

And thats it, as they say in Haynes Manuals refitting is the reverse of removal!

Once fitted top up with 50/50 coolant/water, and open the bleed screw next to the filling cap on the rad, keep filling until there are no bubbles coming out of the hole left by the removal of bleed screw.

HTH,

Ben

Thanks Ben,

I was nervous about whether id have to take out the viscous fan, but it sounds like I dont have to, once I remove the plastic cover that surrounds it (sort of).

A.

BTW, still no sign your old 5 series yet in the work car park.

Mine did but the sensor must be removed from the old one and it doesn't come with a new rad cap!

Thanks lads.

Changed the rad last night. Quite straight forward. All seems well today.
