Move house? Buy a garage? Fit even more security?

You seem to have tried all the usual suspects for competitive quotes...

I'm with Bell Direct - maybe their worth trying...

will try Bell Direct tomoro morning (thanks) do you know a number for them? I'm gonna phone rather than use the net coz i have one of those Pass Plus thingys, which acts like an extra years NCB, and you cant declare that on the net, as the websites dont have a section for it.

thanks once again!

At 19 I had an E30 M3, no garage or tracker. Just Thatcham 1 and cr@p post code!
try:
http://www.quoteline-direct.co.uk

I am now 22, and with Adrian Flux - still E30 M3. Thatcham 2 and garage, still got sh*te post code tho!

Have u tried to limit the millage? Surf the net, there are insurance brokers that are really good.

Hope This Helps,
James

Cheers, lucky enough to be able to.

Sorry to hear that, it seems every year these people invent another way to con money outta ya! I think I have been lucky, I am one step ahead of them! I don't think I could insure an M3 at 19 now!
Trouble is, all these company's that advertise for 'Young Drivers' 'Performance Cars' etc etc. You can't be two! I.E. You can't be young with a performance car!
You tried people like A Quote??
Do they tell you what is keeping ur quote high??

yep, tried them too! StupidQuote.com i prefer to call them! £3,210 or sumit equally ridiculous! quote is high coz of my age and the power of the vehicle basically (oh yea, not to mention the amount of money they want to make off me!)

p.s. its nice to meet someone who appriciates their situation in owning such a beautiful car (most people with fast motors are just dissmissive and ignorant to their luck/high earnings/car)

cheers mate

thats what i thought! lol.

nope. its not a case of CANT, its a case of WONT. if i do get unlucky (or stupid) and very carefully drive my pride and joy into a concrete wall or a tree, then my parents suffer too, not just me. so i cant do that....i did THINK about it, but only for about 5 seconds!

just out of curiosity, what r u payin for ur M3?

Fair enough, plus you wont build any NCB in your parents name.
I pay £1,100 TPFT, semi-classic policy. Garaged, 4 years NCB, Cat 2 Immob, 5,000 miles a year. I have an accident on my record, not my fault tho. I have a terrible post code tho! Oh, and that includes mods.

wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   i was told £945 TPFT....not interested tho!

erm...why do you go TPFT on an M3? Surely you'd want to be covered for it if you messed up a corner in the wet??? most companies wont insure me unless im 21 or 25 (gits) this wud be garaged, nearly 2yrs NCB, cat 2, 8000 miles (its my only car) no accidents, and post code is ok (west wales in middle of country side) i cant see where they get the quotes from!

I feel very sorry for you, at your age I had an MGB roadster, the only way I could insure that ( it was a group 6 then, a porshe 911 was a group 9 !!) was through the mg owners club, to make matters worse I was in the forces, it isnt possible to have a worse job as far as insurance is concerned.

As we dont have any insurance scheme through the club (I'm not even sure if the mg club still have one), I'm afraid it seems your stuck with high quotes.

I know it wont be your favoured answer, but have you considered dropping to one of the 4 cylinder 3 series for a couple of years, just so you can age and build up your no claims?

The 318Is models always seem to get a good review on here

Hi Nigel! In response to the question regarding the 4 cylinder models of E30, the answer is yes, i have thought about it....but I already have the car, and paid a resonably high price for it (its in fab condition and its a real looker) so i would probably lose money changing cars too, which would add up to the cost of insurance from StupiQuote.com !!!!

So thats not happening im afraid. I WOULD drop down to a 318iS, but I'd be forever looking through the freeads for a 325 and with the time i would spend doing that, i could earn enough to keep the 325. (JUST)

I appriciate your condolences, but does anybody out there know WHY insurance companies feel they have to treat us like Afgahns with an AK47 ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

Scott

Its just your age mate, and the general perception of young men and fast cars, it isnt new, and your paying the price for what my generation, and the generations before me did, I actually think young drivers today are much better, on the whole, than when I was your age...I'm 42 Scott, not ancient yet...but getting there.

I've had another idea, it wont help you this year, but it could make quite a difference to next years insurance.

Have you considered the advanced driving test, its the police grade 1, without the hot pursuit stuff (shame !!).

I'm actually doing mine at the moment, and I'm enjoying every moment of it, although, despite doing 40 - 50,000 miles a year, and therefore having quite a lot of experience, its not easy !!

They actually have a special scheme for young drivers, making it cheaper for you, its only £85 for me, that includes the observed runs (lessons) and the test.

Have a look on www.Iam.org.uk , there will be a group for your area, and despite the reputation, they are no more of a goody two shoes, cardigan wearing, boring git organisation, than we are a snobby elitest group.

Not all insurers give a discount, but a lot do, and the list is growing.

Just to prove they dont only pick on you youngsters, I changed the 5 spokes on my 5 series for the proper bmw x spokes, one insurance company said I had modified the car, and refused to quote me, despite the fact I'd only put it back to how it was sold !!

Mines old and despite having no value I've just rebuilt it, its a superb second car (daddys toy), 4 years no claims (second car, full on my main car)),192 bhp as opposed to your 170, 3 points, wr5 post
code, £170.00 a year tpft, no mileage restriction.

So hang in there, along with baldness and wrinkles....cheap insurance will come.

I'm familiar with that myself even now at 28 with 9yrs NCB there are many insurers who won't touch me in the 328i while I remain under 30 years old.

Just think... you've got another 11 years of this errrm, I'm not helping am I

Hi Nigel,

Do you really think the Advanced Driving course will bring my insurance down that much?  Coz at that price....its worth doing it!!!! init!?

I reciprocate your feelings of the hot-pursuit stuff being left out........would be fun...especially if I could do it in my E3O-learn how to control my own motor instead of a crappy Omega.

Regarding the baldness and wrinkles - I DONT WANT TO WAIT THAT LONG to pay my insurance...needs to be done friday! Grrrrrrr!!!!

Ring a few companies and ask them what discount they offer for advanced drivers, I dont qualify for it yet, and it wasnt the main reason for me doing it, its just a benefit they bleat on about in the magazines.

Hi Scott I'm currently with adrian flux and paying £724 on my 325i and im 24. I did try direct line who quoted me £730 when i phoned adrian flux they asked what my lowest quote was and they beat it. You could try a bit of haggling! Nice to see another welshman!

Elephant.co.uk gave me a quote of £350 on my 328i for fully comp and one named driver.I was surprised that some companies wouldn't give me a quote though, as my wife is 28 and too young for the car (not that she ever gets to drive it!)I am 33.
You just need to keep looking I'm afraid.I too, paid way over the odds for insurance for years because of a drink/drive ban

Hi Nigel! I might just do that...see what they say. i mean, if it only saves me what i pay for the tuition, then it will be worth it, coz i should.....SHOULD be a better driver for it, which means theres less chance of me writing off my beloved Beemer!!!

Simon, the haggling is coming VERY SHORTLY.... lol...... where r u from then? what part of wales? Im originally from Caerphilly, just outside Cardiff, but now i live in Carmarthen, West Wales. Just out of curiosity, are you fully comp of TPFT on the insurance? Bare in mind that you're 5 years older than me.... the fall in cost is pretty good isnt it?

Steve, how about this for a laugh.... Elephant wanted £2189 for an UNMODIFIED version of my car......now add SPAX Gas adjustable shocks which lowers the car 20mm, and a Green Induction kit (both were on the car when i bought it) and you get some idea of the prices im getting quoted! £350 is pretty good to be honest - my mum pays £290 for a H reg 318i (E30), so i dont think you're doing too bad on that one to be honest! lol

Nice to speak to you all though guys!

Scott, I am affraid there is nothing you can do that will get you cheap insurance except get older or get a smaller car. I'm 28 and I have just renewed my insurance on my 328 and had a similar experience to Webdunk, a lot of places won't touch you until your 30, never mind 19!

I have gone through privillage who quoted me £530, the next best was Adrian flux at about £535. No one else got below £700, and thats with 6 years no claims bonus

You could always try removing the modifications as these will not help. I knew a lad your age who was paying £1500 for a 2.0 8v Calibra! so I'm not supprised at the quotes you have been getting.

Hi peter,

i'd love to try a quote without the mods, but, to put it back to standard would cost the same as my insurance, so it cant be done. Saying that, tesco wanted the best part of £1850 for a standard 325 with no mods, and privaledge wont even listen to my name, let alone the make and model of my car!!!

£1500 wouldnt bother me....although i wouldnt pay £1500 ins' for a scabby 8v calibra........... a 24v 4x4 MAYBE, but not an 8!!!   Best stick with me beemer methinks!

Norwich Union was offering a 30% discount if you signed up for their road recovery policy at the same time.  The recovery was only about £60 and based on the quotes you have been getting, spending that £60 could save you up to £500.

Try adding your parents to your policy as secondary drivers as that can sometimes lower your premiums.  They wouldn't be affected if you made a claim.  Have you done a Pass Plus course?, are you still able to?.  That can save you money too as I think it adds a year of no-claims to your history.

pass plus is useless unless you have no NCB..... its becomes inactive as soon as you get NCB... not worth the £300 since its still what you will save... norwich union quoted me 3k for my car on my moms policy with me as a named driver... my mom is 43 with no NCB(been on my dads insurance all her life)... and the car is in my signiture.... when i got to 1550 quote all the big companies i rang said that they were "not competitive" one guy said with a welsh accent  which i found quite funny... calibras are cavaliers..... cavaliers suck

Ascotgrun - this stuff about Norwich Union...Is that right? it cant be??? surely??? ye, ive done a pass-plus, but it doesnt make a difference now- dbanbery is spot on with his comment-insurance couldnt care less if ive done a pass plus. it doesnt carry any weight now. Ive also thought about "stretching the truth" and putting my mother on my policy, but it doesnt change much!

900 notes is pretty good dbanbery! i hope mine comes down that much!especially on a 325! looks as if im stuck with £1700 though...oh well, never mind.....could always try asking if they will insure me for 3 months (until my 2nd year of NCB comes allong) maybe that will change things (doubt it tho!)   Looking forward to going to my first BMW CC GB meet.....does anybody know which ones will be next? as a cant seem to make sence of where my nearest one would be. I just got my Norwich Union policy on Oct 30th.  They were doing an introductory deal for their new roadside coverage.  Sign up for roadside cover and get 30% off your insurance.  I wound up paying £20 less for my policy with the roadside cover than I would have paid without the cover.  Of course my initial quote was only £390 (I think) so 30% of that wouldn't be as much of a savings as 30% of £1500.

When I got the policy the girl on the phone said that by adding my wife my premiums would be reduced even more.  I think the insurance companies believe that if there is another driver using the car then there is less chance of you smashing it.  I have no clue how much cheaper it is though.  Could be a savings of 50p for all I know.

I tried adding my mum to my policy, but it works out MORE EXPENSIVE because she has points on her licence. Never thought THAT would happen.

Nope, I don't work for Norwich Union (or anyone else for that matter), just passing on my experience with them.  If additional drivers have points or worse driving records than yourself, then yeah adding them won't help.  Did you even ask about the 30% discount for signing up for roadside recovery policy?.  I know I didn't imagine it as that was what sold me on the NU policy.

Tescos and direct line (on line) seem to be giving me decent quotes for standard cars if i tell them that i have 2yrs NCB.

i did think about the fact that i wont accumulate any NCB on my mums insurance policy, BUT i am already insured on my Renault clio under my own name until 11th march, so im accumulating NCB on that car.........

........but i dont want my mum THINKING that she can drive my BMW.........

2.5 litres and twisty and iced up roads (like my local ones) and a mum who thinks she's allowed to drive my car equals 1 worried man!!! (ME)....... i mean..... would YOU want any1 else driving YOUR car??????????? I DONT THINK SO!!!!
