You need to be more specific, does the engine turn over on the key but not fire or does the key not ebven turn the engine?
Is there any form of alarm/immobiliser on the car?

First port of call for a non starting E24 is usually the fuel pump relay.  On your model, it's one of the relays on the side of the fusebox.  A good place to start is here:- http://my.att.net/p/s/community.dll?ep=16&groupid=160912&ck= -
