any advice pls on how to change fron lens, and where to get a manual

Absolute doddle. I have a '96 E38 and can get the headilghts out in less than 10 minutes:

1) Remove the indicator (Philips Screwdriver through the wing rail)
2) Undo the 2 10mm nuts and two Philips screws on the top of the headlight.
3) Disconnect the wiring to the headlight (the outer part of the connector slides up and back)
4) Slide the trim under the headlight towards the centre of the bumper
5) Shine a torch under the headlight and undo the two Torx screws
6) Slide the locking tab out that holds the bottom of the headlight to the wing

The headlight can now be removed. The lense can be removed by 'pingin' off the clips.
