Though i'd share this bizzare one with you. Driving along today (e34) without noticing the needle in the red on temp gauge until i pulled up and saw waves of steam coming out the left hand side of the bonnet. Not a drop of coolant left. Turns out in the auxiliary pump there are 2 magnets, one in the motor and one on the impeller, which sits in a plastic cup. i.e one magnet turns the other. The one in the plastic cup had developed a crack and worn through the plastic dumping all the coolant within a matter of seconds i would guess. Fingers crossed no head gasket gone or worse. It's the m43 engine and fairly bullet-proof so i'm told. Would be a bank holiday tho, so it's left in the yard till tuesday. oh the joys.....
