Uwe, I hear you mate but I'm totally skint at the
moment and have no other way of funding the extension.

I did think about going on the game but would propably only get a balloon and a Zorro mask in payment

Exactly!

You will never get your money's worth out of an extension.  If it costs you 20k to build your house price will not go up by 20k.  House prices are just about to go back up if they haven't already so now is the time to move to a bigger place.

Think of all the dust, noise, mess and hassle you will have building an extension.

Sell the wife so you can fund the car and you will then have more space in your existing house therefore not need an extension, saving you cash and you will also then have more wardrobe space!

Everyone's a winner.

Done correctly to the right house, in context with the area, home improvements DO return value on your property price.

But not to the extent that laying out £10K on a good Sport Evo in 2004 would have.  300% return plus 5 years of enjoyment.  These are example figures - I don't know Gary's and wouldn't post if I did, but I "sold" my cecotto for £7500 in 2004 and what a tit I feel now.

You know my view, Gary, get it sold while it's at the top of the market - buy a Ferrari and scale down the extension.

Sell.  Once you've decided to do it, it'll niggle away at you.  Making the decision is the most difficult bit.

I agree.  I used to get the itch for a change then throw money at modifications, still ended up selling in the end and never got anywhere near the money back I'd spent on new wheels, lowering kits etc.  Once you've grown disenchanted with a car and catch yourself thinking about changing it's time to move on.

On a related note, I was at the MPH show on Saturday and had a sit in a Ferrari Mondial T.... 3.4 litres of V8 loveliness.... £19,995....

Christ its only a car. If you can get what you are asking for it, you should snap their arm off! Granted it is a lovely example but it is only a car, a decent roof over your heads is more important.

If you really care about keeping it that much, move to a sh1ttier area (do you get sh1ttier than coatbridge?  lol) and get a bigger house for the same cash.

Thanks for all your lovely advice. I live in Beirut so it will make life a wee bit easier with the extension.

If i get the asking price or near to it then I can get another toy as well as the extension.

We will have to wait and see if it sells at all

An E30 M3 Sport Evo is not just a car. It's a rare piece of motoring heritage that is only going to see it's values go north.

Fair enough about a roof over your families head being more important though.

Cannae believe a car with only 4 pots is worth that much!

Christ you'll get some extension to the house if you can flog it for that much!

Or you'll get a good second hand M5 for that which has a far better number of cylinders!

Its still just a car at the end of the day. Can you really see prices heading much further north than 35k?

For me, no car wouldnt get a look in over family stuff.

As Gary says an extension to the house with enough left over for a nice toy would be my way too.

E28 M5 would be my choice.

Gary...

Look at this way. You're in an enviable position to have owned like someone earlier mentioned motoring heritage. Not many can say they have or will....

I'll stick a limb out and say that your car will be worth more in few years, as there isn't many black SE's kicking about. Rarity, attracts preminum prices.

However, speculation isn't the issue right now, prioritisng is. If the extension is required, then do what needs to be.

All the best with the sale Gary.  If that value is realistic, I'd be inclined to do the same, pay for the extension and buy an Alpina B10 BiTurbo.  Similar LHD looks, rarity and pace but far less cash tied up.  And they could be worth £30k in five years time

At the end of the day it is a piece of metal, I know you poured hours of time
and money in but your car is in a very unique group in that its appreciated
in value, a lot.

Use the dough for what's needed now, you'll miss it but it will fade...I'm
