Hi, Happy new Year all.

My problem is that i started my car up after a new year, took it for a spin to warm the engine over and noticed a burning rubber smell in to the car when stationary! I popped the bonnet and it seemed to be coming from the back of the engine as i saw a small puff of smoke and then turned the engine off naturally. Any ideas!! Whats behind the engine (Bulk head) that could possibly be melting?

Im not sure if its a red heron, however a few days before that i had to top up my collant as the light kept on popping and off. This is still full so im assuming its nothing water pipe related..

A google search on bimmer forum would suggest a valve cover gasket!! See link:

What is this and why would this be causing a rubber burning smell?

Cheers
