I was bringing a new daily driver back from the UK last weekend through HH and while queued up waiting to board spotted a small locked compound with a few cars in.  It had the look of a group of impounded cars.

One was a silver e46 M3.  Closer inspection revealed it might be a CSL.  With the late afternoon sun reflecting I couldn't be sure if it had the carbon roof but it seemed to have the CSL alloys, boot lid and the front bumper with no fog lights and air scoop.

By the looks of it I'd say it has been there for a while.  Anyone know the story of it?

'00 523i SE with Sport pack.  Mint car, 41k miles, full BMW history.  Relatively unusual Steel Blue colour - looks better on this than an e46 imho.  Lovely car.

'97 523i gone to a pal as a cheap runabout.

Well wear Dergside!

I'm now BMW-less. I bought a 2006 Mazda 6 MPS at the tail end of last year. A quick spin in Bens E39 M5 last weekend on the Vee did have me question the decision, but only until he told me his avg MPG (which is half mine!)

@TJ - Did i tell you about my engine management light earlier on in the day, plugged in this morning, new batch of 02 sensors needed - explains a lot, i might see 20mpg now!

Thanks folks.  Very pleased with it.  1k miles in the week since I picked it up and solid as a rock.  Full BMW history, low owners and clean as a whistle.  Top money for a '00 but buttons for a car with more than 100k less than the previous 5.

From what I hear there is a cop on the road into holyhead with radar gun connected to the motor tax office, If the tax is out he impounds the car. Happened to a guy I worked with bringing back a 630i, car recovery driver told him cop does that all day every day.

Thanks Andy.  Not a colour I was mad about on the e46 but rare enough and looks great in the flesh on the e39, better when clean!  I think the dechroming, clear lenses, 17's and slight lowering with the sport pack option helps keep the look fairly up to date.

It addresses two of the things I would have liked on the previous one, the m-tech steering wheel, replacing the ships tiller 4 spoke wheel that is std, and sport seats.  I did have to give up a sunroof that I really would have liked but have it on the e46 and e36 if necessary.
