disconnected the battery to remove passenger seat to swap then with cloth seat from my other car.
But the cloth seats are electric and wouldn't work, so I had to swap them again!!!
Now the airbag light is on in my old car, other one is fine.

Will this be a simple reset at the dealer (charge for that??)?

If you had to unplug the seat occupancy sensor (which Im guessing you did) under the seats - then once is plugged back in, a reset at an indy/dealer should clear the light.

yes I had disconnected it. But it didn't happen on my other car. Same procedure, battery off and wait 30mins.

Just need to find an Indy which doesn't charge me an arm and a leg.

thanks for your reply

Indeed, however we sell at the same price on eBay as in our shop.  US prices are not accurate as these do not reflect the duty and VAT which is applied onto this price once the goods enter the UK.

Gareth, I don't know if you have read the forum rules about selling as a commercial vendor. I suggest you do so before adverting your products please.

About Ebay, one can buy a ODB2 interface from HONG KONG for a fraction of the price your company is selling them.

Thanks for the nod, apologies if I was infringing forum rules - I will take a look.

Just to clarify - OBD2 or EOBD as it is in Europe only cover cars from 2001 + petrol, and 2004 + diesel.  They are not compliant with any vehicles prior to this, nor do they provide manufacturer level diagnostic trouble codes.

I bought a BMW specific ODB2 cable with software and it just works fine.

If it is BMW specific it is not OBD2 - this is a generic system.

Hope that this helps :)

Just to be clear as there is a lot of confusion on this.  OBD2 in the UK only covers 2001+ petrol and 2004+ diesel vehicles.  Anything prior to that is not OBD2, or EOBD as it is in the EU.  Anything prior to this requires a BMW specific tool.

Yes as you would then need to delete the fault code.

Not everything requires a diagnostic reset once a new sensor is fitted, but the air bag is one of them.

Yep, a very common issue I'm afraid.  The airbag light is very sensitive, and reguarly gets triggered even by non-airbag related issues.

80k miles in my old E39 and never had the airbag light on. Till I fiddled with the seats.

My E39 airbag light came on twice, first time after the Mers got in to move the car and pulled the seat forward. Second time was when I put a notebook down between the seat and the transmission tunnel and bumped the seat belt pre-tensioner.

Atleast that is one improvement (of very few) in the E60 over the E39, not so sensitive airbag warning systems!

The honest answer is, I didn't, I traded it against my first E60!

I told the salesman about it and how I think it happened but he knew exactly what had happened and he knew that he could sort it with a quick diagnostic reset.  Didn't affect the trade in price

The first time it happened the local garage reset it (via diagnostic) for me at MOT time.  they charged me an hours labour IIRC for it at the time.  Standard price for a diagnostic check/reset.

Replaced the sensor. An Indy connected a diagnostics tool to it and it
can't connect to the airbag ecu. Anyone have any ideas?

The diagnostics tool is the autoboss v30 unit.
