Well since I've had it for three weeks and not told anyone, I thought I'd better post some pics up....

It's a 2001 E46 M3 in Laguna Seca Blue, matching leather, Hammon Kardon, Xenons, and Mini disk head unit (how strange!?)

I took some photos after the show yesterday, since it was looking pretty good!

To say Gary and Davy's faces were a picture when they saw it is an understatement!!lol. Fantastic, just been through to see me Dad in Bathgate tonight, a nice wee run! Loving every minute of it at the moment, it's fantastic!!

You sly dog!!! Congrats mate, can't wait to see it in the metal, i can see you've had the rotary over her already!

Forget cleaning the mats up, bin them and buy new, it will clean the inside up no end.

Also get a 330 sport gearknob on there and your done!

Cheers John, Yes Ian and I were busy last Friday & Saturday, never had time to do it all yet, still the roof, mirrors and bumpers to fully correct but the rest has been done.

As for the mats, Ian said the same, I was quite liking the M3 logos but the fact that the drivers one wont clean up properly is quite annoying me! As for the gear knob, yes a change is on the cards as its a bit scruffy, so the 330 one you say??

Which one of these we taking about ... http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partgrp.do?model=BN52&mospid=47620&hg=91&fg=10 - Clicky

The guys on M3forum.net say that their ZCP knob and gaiter are good, but thats one 330 item anyway..... http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=179858&page=2 - Clicky

Will see what I can get, got my Angel Eyes fitted tonight also( Thanks Cambell!)

Unfortunately all E46's will at some point require rear subframe repair.

The 7-10 year old models are really starting to come out of the woodwork for BMW right now.

The reason I decided to get it inspected was there's just a little too much of a clunk between 1st and 2nd, So I took it down to Andrew and David at the Mill Garage Longniddry, got them to give it a going over and tell me whats what(Both Ex BMW mechanics. Turn out there's some small cracks at the rear of the subframe, not sure whats at the front.
But the good thing is if the boot floor section does need replaced, it'll be my Mum's partner Colin who will be doing the mechanical work as he works for Eastern/Western at the bodyshop. So he'll be nice to it.

Will see whats happens on Monday.

Just another wee update, I was in at my mates garage today to fit my springs and check out another few problems.
When I was under looking at the back I decided to have another look at the supposedly Ok but I can still see cracks, what do you thnik.....

Spot the crack....

(sorry about the bad iphone photos and the big photos, they won't resize in photobucket once loaded)

So to say I'm quite disappointed in Eastern, I expected them to know exactly what they were looking at, but it looks like I'll have to tell them how to fix it too. So I'll be having words tomorrow.

Well I'd already been in. the car is stock, they gave it a "Health check" which cost me 36quid, and told me a few things that were needing fixed but there was no cracks and it was fine, but I wasn't convinced, and rightly so. where were they looking.....the the diff....the subframe itself??

I'll not be paying this time tho!!

Paul, they need to put it on the freewheel ramp and have someone sit in an drive the car, you cant fail to see it then on each gear change. the subframe will float about at every gearchange as the crack/s open and close.

any one with an e46 should consider having this checked and even if it does checkout ok you should still have the foam sprayed between the boot floor skins to prevent the problem occuring in the future. insist the stealer does this as when the car is 10 years or older bmw wont honour this fix.

I know you are right tho they cant even get ordering parts right either. Steve (Hairy haggis) is having a right carry on with a well known dealers in Fife over ordering parts and he is raging about it because his car is off the road as a result. No doubt he will be along to tell the tale!

I mean OMG ..... a simple question as I happened to just pop in off the cuff to order the gasket as I knew it would need to be done as car was approaching 70K miles and was on original rocker gasket with very minor leakage from the rear corner.... I specifically asked at the time against the chassis number which is memorised if there was only one gasket listed to be told yes .... when I went to change it this wekeend it wasnt until I got it all stripped down that the difference was clear. !!!

And now this morning the retards wanted to charge me a returned fee for supplying the wrong part. Admittedly it was bought in April but they supplied the wrong part.

After a little argument that escalated from Adam the parts guy to David the parts manager I eventually got them to replace the gasket with the correct one after I supplied the drawing and the part number.

But still the cars been off the road now sine Saturday morning and the parts not going to be in until Tuesday since they keep NOTHING on the shelf ... not even the clips for side trim or the wee plastic clips for the plastics over the engine .... honestly ... what is the point of a parts dept with nowt in stock ???

My entire faith in Phoenix BMW in Kirkcaldy, Fife has been exhausted .... and I was a firm defender of theirs too with Donut and Rod when they were experiencing problems ... this experience has just pushed me over the edge completely !!!

I am just lucky I did wait as a 4 day break without a car during peak wedding season could have been catastrophic for me.

I order parts from HF in Irvine on a monthly basis and always get the right parts usually next day and car club discount.

Those larger dealers are a shambles!

I have to say i've never really had a problem with the parts
departments at Eastern or Peter Vardy, i usually give them the part
numbers and quantities that i want. Car club discount and next day
delivery has never been a problem. I usually just wait the 2 days for
the parts to arrive if i dont need them urgently tho.

In at Eastern at the mo, they've got my car back up on the ramp,
waiting for the verdict of the techs.

Eastern are saying - Yes you do have cracks, but no they're not covered by the subframe crack repair procedure.....although there are two cracks one either side and they're on the same panel as the mountings, and right next to the rear mountings.  Of which is a load of b******s if you ask me! So now I have to go in and speak to the Service manager/dealer principal Derek Drummond and and try and get them to fix it. The Annoying point is, they didn't lower the rear subframe to check for cracks, which is what they need to do.

this is close to what I have....

Not mine, but this is where my cracks are...

these are all I can see, there could be more severe cracks but without dropping the rear subframe you can't see them, and I don't want to do that just incase BMW say nope we're not fixing that as someone else has been in here.

Pauls BMW mechanic mate put it correctly........"This is a family saloon with a F'kin stupid engine in it" This is not a criticism, it is what it is. BMW need to recognise the original mistake and honour its fix. RS4 anyone ?

Wasn't a pop at M3's Davy, If the body of the car cant take the strains and stresses that a powerful engine applies then in my opinion its a design fault and BMW are responsible. Lets face it tho, there is no more powerful engine fitted to the E46 than the M3 lump. (Thats not an invite to the Alpina boys)

didnt say you were havin a pop bud, just makin you aware that your vert could have issues to. nothing to do with how powerful the engine is.

I dunno.

My E60 has the same part numbers of various components of the drive train and suspension as the E60 520d (yeah I know what an insult to the V8).  So the components in my car are subject to a lot more stress and strain from the traction and torque reactions from my acceleration forces than the same components in a wheesily diesel.

Does that mean mine are underdesigned and prone to wear prematurely or are the oil burner parts over designed?

Its all about ecconomies when designing and supplying parts to cars.

Keep us posted on the outcome Paul

Banging and knocking...now we're talking!!

BMW's are riddled with issues currently and in past, no matter what model you have. As to warranty and recalls, this is where the dealerships are at their most awkward!!

Right, went to Eastern today to speak to Derek Drummond the Service Manager, they've booked my car in to see the regional Rep from BMW UK and he'll decided if it shal be fixed or not, so it's a waiting game till the 12th of November.

Also he says the car only has a 6 year corrosion warranty, and he's not sure if it will get fixed as good will or not. But I don't see what this has to do with corrosion, it's metal fatigue and cracks!?

You never know, you could argue that the metal has thinned due to corrosion making more prone to fatigue cracks and get it done as a goodwill.  Is the car FBMWSH if they are even entertaining it at 9 years old?

I was actually thinking that the metal fatigue had caused some serious flexing of the floor pan, causing the flaking of underseal and corrosion?

Yip it's got full BMWSH, although the last stamp was an Inspection II by Eastern in July I think, but there's no record of it as I'm sure it was done as a homer!lol.

Back to the modding....

Finally got a set of the correct Depos for the car and got them fitted...

Before...

After..

Wasn't too sure about them at first but they're growing on me and starting to look good. Also I think the next upgrade is a set of new headlight lenses to freshen it up a little

It's the little things that count Paul, i replaced the headlight lenses on my last M3 and it freshened it up no end!

You thinkin of getting the rims mirror polished for that added shine?

Nah I've got to say I like the OEM finish, might get a couple of the rims refurbed, redo the diamond cut finish, as two have been done and two original.

Yip head light lenses are next, but before that I've got to go pester Issy so that I can figure out the exact location of the M3 badge on the boot lid, will need to measure it out to get it right.
