can anyone tell me which is the relay for the heater.My battery has a drain problem over night and i think it is the heater causing this

I don't have the Bentley manual to hand so can't give you the relay number but if you have a problem that you think may be related to the heater, then look at the hedgehog resistor (FSR) as the first thing to eliminate as a problem.  I can't think of too many heater related issues on the e39 that were reported here that didn't involve the FSR.

I picked up my '01 525i recently and it had an overnight battery drain problem too.

My local auto electrictian said 'hedgehog', very common it seems. He replaced it for about £90 fitted. No problems since
