Have tried looking through the old topics but couldn't find a direct answer

The E38 I have blows hot air on the driver's side and coolish air on the passenger side, The air con system when I tried to service at a garage refused to charge up. Thank god I didn't buy it in the summer so I can live with the heat over the winter.

Will this be an expensive repair ? or can it be repaired ?

Any help / suggestions welcomed

It's probably a knackered heater valve.

If its like the E39 of the same era, then on the inner wing/chassis rail on the nearside there should be two heater valves one for each side of the cabin.  Sounds like one is stuck, they can be free'd by tapping them with a hammer.

Why did the garage refuse to top up the air con?  It's not like it uses the old harmful gas.

They tried twice but it seems the system wouldn't hold it being charged up

Will try the hammer approach and let you know

Thanks for the tip

You'll no doubt have a leak due to corrosion or a dried out seal.  Air con can be expensive to fix.
