Hi all

New member here, picking up a E63 635d, 2009 59 plate on sat. I was just wondering how easy or hard it is to change the angel eyes bulbs to LED. It has xenon headlights but the angel eyes look yellow.

Cheers

Hi and welcome to the forum.

At a guess, very.

The headlights have been designed for filament type bulbs and as such draw a certain amount of current from the cars electrical system.  If you (can) swap for LEDs which draw far less current the car may get confused and thru the toys out the pram.  It may think there is a fault and fire off warning lights on the dash.  You might be able to reprograme something but what and how I don't know.  Although I'm not sure if the E60 will detect a front side light out, which is the angle eye bit so to speak.  The dipped and full beam lights are filament type bulbs.  I've never had a blown bulb on my E60 to know if it can detect a front bulb failure.

The 'halo' of the angle eyes comes on with the sidelights which again is a filament bulb probably 5 or 10 Watt.  You should be able to get an upgrade bulb from Halfrauds which may give whiter or a more blue light instead.  The Dame Edna eyebrows are LEDs which on my E60 had to be http://www.bavarian-board.co.uk/forum_posts.asp?TID=41059&KW=Eyebrow&PID=382364&title=e60-headlight-eyebrows#382364" rel="nofollow - re-programmed to come on after I bought it .
