a constant beep is a duff or problematic sensor that's all I know.

On mine this happened and they just packed up, that was until I gave the car a damn good clean including the sensors, turns out the previous used copious amounts of polish on the black rear trim and this played havoc with the sensor, so once cleaned they worked as BMW intended.

It sounds like it's a duff sensor.

IIRC you need to turn the ignition on but not start the engine. Engage reverse and then listen closely to each sensor. They should emit a low clicking sound. Any that don't need replacing.

Peter is quite correct, a duff sensor is the http://www.bavarian-board.co.uk/forum_posts.asp?TID=48562&title=e60-parking-sensor-rear-replacement" rel="nofollow - one that doesn't click .  But your problem I don't think is due to a problematic sensor.  It sounds more like a control issue which may warrant a diagnostic check.  Your system is not switching on properly.

Would be interested to hear how you get on.  To fix properly may be into three figures but it is a pain the sit down bits when something like this doesn't work.

Andy, I got Tommys working the other week by simply giving them a good clean with my fingernail. The build up of polish sounds like what that problem was.

Hope you get it sorted bud.

mine are playing up as well. Replaced one sensor and a few month later the next one is broken. Might as well rip them all out and fit a £15 set of ebay like my neighbour did and they work well without any problem!

Why will a towbar help???? You just bash your legs on the bloody thing all the time!
