Can anyone tell me the criteria for getting classic insurance on my 540? It's over 17 years old now and I only do a few thousand miles a year. Also if she's eligible, any companies anyone can recommend? Cheers Mike -------------

Not sure if your 540 would qualify, probably would with some but not with others, Most classic policies do not accrue(sp) no claims discount, car must be a 'second' car and do not cover business/ to from work use. I thought I may not qualify but when I have to pay nearly £500 a year for only about 6000 miles I thought there may be a better way, especially when I have maximum no claims. We pay similar for my wifes car but at least she does the mileage. I blame all these "where there's blame there's a claim" companies GRRRRRRRR! -------------

I went on line to find an insurer for my M6, after Aon (otherwise known as Footman James) upped my premium by 65% this year with no excuse offered. I switched it to Performance Direct, and got it covered for £256 at a full replacement value of £30,000, against Footman James's £640. Curious thing is that Footman James just renewed my 728i for £540ish, when Performance Direct wanted over £800! I have 11 years no claim bonus, and never had an accident for at least 10 years prior to that, despite driving 20K miles every year at home and abroad. But my last post does not answer your question. Your car should fall into "Coming Classic" status with some companies and Classic with others. You must have access to another car, in order to have classic insurance, as companies will not just allow you to run your day car on a classic policy, as they rely on you to do less miles and look after and drive your car better than non classic cars tend to get driven.
